Informal, introductory questions such as this are common icebreakers designed to get you to relax. Asking an informal question is more likely to result in a sincere answer. The interviewer wants to see the real you. But the goal here is to offer a well-thought-out elevator pitch telling them who you are as a professional, your humble beginnings, where you are taking your career, and where you hope to go next.

While preparing for your interview, you'll want to present yourself as a professional in every way. HireVue's assessment model will evaluate your professional appearance and your surroundings. Wear professional clothing suited to the role. Your personal space is also a reflection of your professionalism and work ethic. So make sure you choose a space for your recorded interview that is clear of distractions, neat, tidy, organized, and work-appropriate. Their focus should be on you and not your background.

BAE Systems says, "We know you want to put your best foot forward with us." They also offer a few tips to succeed in your BAE Systems interview: "First impressions matter. Wearing professional attire to the interview conveys respect and is always appropriate. Don't wear clothes that are uncomfortable to the point of being distracting. Too short, too tight, too loose or too low might make you memorable in a negative way. Good eye contact conveys honesty." And, HireVue offers the following tip: "Maximize your comfort level and share your experiences and skills as naturally as possible. This is an opportunity to share your story as a candidate. "
HireVue offers some similar advice: "We recommend that you wear exactly what you would for a traditional face-to-face interview. This can mean something different for every company and position, so we recommend picking your outfit based on the role you are interviewing for. Think about it this way: if you're applying to a non-customer-facing role, it will probably have a more casual dress code, and a nice, clean top, free of excess writing, will probably do for your interview! Alternatively, if you're applying for a role where you'd typically wear a suit and tie every day, we recommend you do the same for your interview. It may feel a little different to put on your Sunday best for your kitchen table, but hey, at least you won't have to get it pressed again after this, right?"

"It's been eight years since my internship after college, and I shifted my career direction to this field about five years ago when they asked me if I wanted to take the open position at XYZ Inc. It felt like a better fit, and I readjusted my career goals and priorities accordingly. As I progressed in my skills, I slowly realized there was little growth in that company, and they won't be able to facilitate where I am headed next. This position is more in line with my pursuits, which is what brings me here today."

I am a clinical pharmacist and I have always been interested in technology and its power in making a positive impact in the world. The COVID-19 pandemic was a turning point in my journey into tech as it made me realize the value of using data and technology in different domains, from healthcare to business. So, I started pursuing my interests and started developing coding projects on my own. I started enjoying this and found out I wanted to use technology to better improve people's lives, which is what has led me to applying for this role at BAE systems.
