By learning about your accomplishments and how you measure success, the company will better be able to determine how well suited you are for Nike's work culture. So go into your interview prepared. The HireVue platform has a question bank which it calls their "Interview Builder." It contains categories, and subcategories ranging from career positions, company culture, and skill levels required to perform the job. All of these questions were designed by its industrial-organizational psychologists. In its interview builder, it breaks a candidate's experience level into five categories: novice, developing, intermediate, advanced, and expert. It defines a novice as disorganized, willing to bend the rules, lazy, and careless. And an expert is defined as attentive, meticulous, careful, thorough, and accountable.

This question is designed to get to know you. This is the primary goal of any interview. By getting to know the real you, the interviewers will better be able to ascertain how well you would fit into their environment and culture, how well you would get along with their teams, and how well you would be able to perform at the job. So, help yourself and your interviewer. Show your personality, as you would in a live interview. Even though you are talking to the algorithm, conduct yourself as if you were speaking to a real person. Do your best to relax while speaking in a level, yet enthusiastic, tone. By asking the right questions it will more effectively elicit responses which better predict and identify skills, characteristics, and job performance. When sharing a significant professional achievement, remember, what you share will suggest where you are, developmentally, as a professional. So share a recent example that offers insights into your current skill level and expertise. Consider the advice Nike gives on its careers page, "Athletes know the importance of training; so should you. Take some time before your interview to review your CV and think about your experiences, for example; Your greatest accomplishments. Your approach to collaboration. One of HireVue's advertised benefits is that candidates can take their interview at any time and anywhere. But this is intended to serve their clients by freeing up the recruiter's schedule and allowing them the flexibility to review the materials later when it suits them. So beware of the conflicting advice HireVue offers candidates. On one webpage, it recommends finding a quiet and professional space to perform your interview. But another webpage suggests, "Just relax. If your dog barks or your kid runs across the screen-relax. It's okay. Your employer will understand, and if they don't, perhaps it's not the right culture fit for you. And that's okay. This is your time to showcase who you are and what you can add to an organization. Prepare, take a deep breath, and be yourself." Instead, take the advice Nike offers on its website, "Take your time. Make sure you're in a comfortable environment free of distractions."

Tips
Remember, the algorithm will evaluate how well-groomed you are and how tidy and professional your attire is, and how distraction free your environment is. HireVue even goes so far as to recommend you find a location free of distractions. Yet, it offers a feature that blurs out your background if you can't find one. However, most recruiters may find that blurred background distracting and wonder what that hidden background says about how organized or professional you are, ultimately resulting in unconscious bias. Even though it claims their algorithm is bias-free, the recruiter makes the final call. So don't choose an informal setting, such as a coffee shop or shared workspace. Allow yourself all the time needed to prepare. As you would in an in-person interview, present yourself on camera as a professional in every way.

"I learned a lot of leadership skills at my current company. I've also done a lot of mentoring and coaching and could tell you about that, or how I improved the KPIs of my team. However, in all honesty, my greatest accomplishment has been applying the skills and experience I have gained professionally in my personal life. How to Prep
Spend time practicing this Nike interview set. Although HireVue takes measures to prevent candidates from seeing the interview questions before the interview, we've managed to get a sneak peek at its interview builder, have identified the behavioral structure for most of their questions, and have studied Nike's work culture, allowing us to predict the types of questions you can expect in your Nike HireVue interview.
HireVue offers the following advice: "While virtual interviewing isn't difficult, a little practice can help you prepare. Most on-demand interviews ask you to give your answer in just a few minutes. It's helpful to think about how you will illustrate your skills clearly in that time frame, and to practice them out loud."

Take note of Nike's language and value statements, and integrate its keywords and key phrases into your answers when possible. Try to come across as natural, though. Sounding too rehearsed can make you sound disingenuous. Why the Interviewer Asks This Question
When pitching to a company why it should hire you, there are a few things the company doesn't want to hear. First, it doesn't want you to tell them what you think it wants to hear. Second, it doesn't want you to repeat back to it, word for word, what it has advertised in its recruitment efforts, or what it has detailed the company is looking for on the website. Third, the company doesn't want you to just tell it that you are great or the right person for the job. These do nothing to separate you from any other candidate saying the same thing.
Rather, what they want from you are two things. First, they want you to show them, not tell them, through an actionable answer, that you've prepared for this interview, are excited about this opportunity, and have a strong work ethic. How well you've prepared will reveal your work ethic. By giving an actionable answer, they'll be better equipped to believe you are who you say you are. And secondly, they want you to tell them the truth. When you are telling the truth, and your answers are sincere, they'll believe that you believe in what you are saying.

When sharing why you feel strongly about Nike hiring you, and giving your elevator pitch as to why you are the right candidate for the job, start off by taking the advice Nike offers on its website.
