Strong math skills will be required for those who work in customer-facing roles and are expected to provide a strong checkout experience. Therefore, this question aims to determine whether you are focused and can multitask handling cash or accurately ring up customers while providing a great customer service experience. According to one such position, a candidate is expected to be able to: Build loyalty by ensuring customers have a positive final touchpoint during the IKEA shopping experience. Provide an efficient and accurate checkout experience in various areas of the store. Offer additional products and services such as home delivery, credit card, and IKEA Family card. Resolve customer concerns independently to meet their unique needs and expectations. Provide friendly, safe, and efficient car loading and unloading services. Assure your interviewer that you are well-equipped to meet the demands of the job and are thoroughly familiar with what is expected of you.

Rachelle's Feedback
Try backing your response with reasoning. Which mathematical areas are you strongest, and where could you use additional training?
"I would rate my mathematical skills a 7 out of 10. I did well in math while attending high school, even volunteering part-time as a peer tutor. However, I could work on strengthening my skills when it comes to calculus and analysis."

When it comes to basic math, I would have to say I would either be a 7 or an 8.
Marcie's Feedback
Being honest is great, but it's really important that you be confident too. Believe in yourself! See below for another way you could answer this question:
I am confident in my ability to handle customer transactions and would rate myself around a solid 8 or so. I know how to do basic math and if I ever encountered a situation when I was unsure, I am resourceful and would consult a trusted colleague for help. In general, though, I don't anticipate having any trouble in this area. And in all cases I would strive to be friendly and professional, providing all customers with a high level of customer service.
