      How to Answer

During Stryker's rich history, starting with Dr. Homer Stryker founding the company in 1936, the company has acquired many companies to broaden its product line and innovate the products that they are bringing to healthcare customers and patients around the world. Some of Stryker's acquisitions in recent years have included NOVADAQ, Mako Surgical Corp., and Boston Scientific's Neurovascular division. Knowing that acquisitions like this will likely continue into the future, your interviewer has a genuine curiosity about your prior experience working with companies that have been through merger or acquisition processes. Talk openly about any experiences with this that you have and how these changes impacted your work. In the end, make sure to show your excitement about coming to work for an industry giant like Stryker that is always looking to grow its business to the next level.

"While I have not been a part of a merger, I was with a start-up company that was in continuous growth. In an environment such as this, there can be a lot of chaos as everyone is playing their part to implement new initiatives that can be in constant flux. This can create opportunities for learning and leadership, as I discovered what marketing initiatives worked best for my customers."

      Rachelle's Feedback

Comparing mergers and acquisitions to a start-up environment is a smart move. I like that, rather than saying you do not have the experience, you give an example of a situation that would require a similar skill set.
