Question 3 of 35

Here at Stryker, we have a supply chain transparency program that ensures we are sourcing gold, tungsten, and tin from socially responsible sources. What do you know about this program and is it important to you?

"Ensuring that suppliers follow environmental and social constraints is very important nowadays, given the fragile status of things in the world today and I really respect that Stryker takes a very firm stance in ensuring that materials they use come from places that treat workers fairly and justly. Along that same line, ensuring that supplier diversity is reflective of a company is important and I got the strong sense today that Stryker takes this seriously as well. I would be very comfortable in this work environment knowing that every material and effort towards putting world-class medical technologies out to the market was done in a humane way."

  • 3. Here at Stryker, we have a supply chain transparency program that ensures we are sourcing gold, tungsten, and tin from socially responsible sources. What do you know about this program and is it important to you?

      How to Answer

Many of Stryker's technologies utilize what are considered 3TG conflict minerals and these include tin, tungsten, tantalum, and gold. Because these minerals are often sourced from the Democratic Republic of Congo and other conflict-ridden countries, Stryker has come up with a very strict and well-defined ethics policy on how these minerals are sourced from suppliers that follow human rights principles, fair labor, and employment tactics and ensure the health and safety of their employees. Since this is such an important mindset at Stryker, your interviewer wants to hear that you are familiar with their supply chain ethics policy and that you understand why it is in place. Make sure to do a bit of reading on this policy on their website before your interview.

      Lauren's Feedback

You did a great job responding to the larger benefit of a supply chain transparency program, but not about your personal experience and why it is important.
"I am familiar with and in favor of supply chain transparency programs. This speaks to accountability and environmental consciousness. I believe Stryker's commitment to the environment, and its part in the healthcare ecosystem speaks very positively and powerfully of its value system. On a worldwide level, we all deserve safe and humane places to work. I want to represent Stryker because of its elevated level of consciousness."
