Accomplishment
1. What is the proudest achievement on your resume?
How to Answer
The interviewer would like to know which career accomplishment you value the most. Talking about your most significant achievement will give the interviewer a definite idea of where you place your values. It will also show the interviewer more about your personality, how you like to be motivated, and how to coach you in the future. It is okay to brag a little bit when answering this question. Show that you are proud of yourself and your career accomplishments!
Written by Rachelle Enns
1st Answer Example
"The greatest accomplishment in my career was graduating from University as an honors student while working full time in a related field. I was at the top of my class and working full time. This achievement showed me that I could dedicate myself to my career and reach the goals that I set for myself. It felt great to accomplish so much."
Written by Rachelle Enns
2nd Answer Example
"I have many accomplishments of which I am proud. Overall, I would say that my greatest work accomplishment is the positive reputation that I have in the tech industry. I founded the Chinese language school in Japan in 2014 and led this project until 2022. Over six years, we achieved a remarkable 20-fold increase in revenue and improved profitability compared to our first year. This achievement is the result of continuous effort from both me and my team, and it's something I'm particularly proud of.
Furthermore, we expanded the business from a single office to over 25 locations across Tokyo, Kanagawa, Osaka, and more, experiencing rapid growth. When faced with the challenges of COVID-19, we swiftly implemented an online learning platform, maintaining stable monthly sales. Adapting to such changes and driving the growth of the business is another source of pride for me.
I also succeeded in developing and executing marketing strategies. Leveraging Google Ads, I contributed to a significant increase in new customers through social media and a 15% higher website conversion rate. Additionally, we introduced original teaching materials and customized services for business professionals, further focusing our efforts.
My proudest achievement in this project is the growth and transformation it underwent. Leading the organization, effectively expanding it, and achieving success in the market are highlights of my career."

2. Do you mind working long hours?
How to Answer
The interviewer wants to gauge how flexible and experienced you are in this regard. How you answer this question, direct or evasive, will clue them into the truth behind your answer.
Be upfront about the schedule you're willing to work. As you know, you are interviewing them as much as they are interviewing you. This distinguishes you from the herd as a viable candidate simply because you're both after the same thing, a good fit. Interviews are an excellent time to uncover expectations. Take notes and follow up with questions. When possible, have a notebook or folder containing all of the resumes and cover letters you've sent to other employers, divided into sections, with notes from each interview in each separated tab. This will not only advertise you are playing the field but are approaching it with an organized systems approach, where you are scaling what each job has to offer, as well as respectfully exhibiting your interviewing skills.

3. Are you willing to relocate or travel?
How to Answer
This question tests your flexibility and how far you would be willing to go to land the job. It also tests your honesty, as many might tell the interviewer anything they think they'd want to hear to land the job.
If you weren't aware travel was a prerequisite for the position, ask if it is. Tell the interviewer you're interested in the position and would be open to discussing it further. If your understanding of constant business travel doesn't fit into your current lifestyle, take some time to evaluate how this fits into your long-term career goals. Ask more questions about the position, including if there is room for advancement from within and if a willingness to travel is a prerequisite to growing in the company. Maintain your interest. Keep discussions open and exude flexibility with a focus on a willingness to go to bat for the team. Weigh the pros and cons if you are unsure while exhibiting consideration and flexibility.
Written by Kevin Downey on May 27th, 2022
Answer Example
"I'd have to take some time to consider what that means. I don't believe anyone would disagree that such a huge life decision should be made with care. I'd have to weigh how such a decision would impact my personal life and career goals. Once I had all the needed information, I'd consider all options carefully."

4. Working at Expedia, you will experience changes on a regular basis. When have you had to change a major component of your project due to new information being presented?
How to Answer
Being able to swivel the focus of your project is a necessary skill for your success at Expedia. Talk to the interviewer about a time when a significant change occurred on a project. Describe how you handled the implementation of the new information.
Written by Rachelle Enns
1st Answer Example
"I had a large project last month that was nearly complete when the project manager called to say that the interface was incorrect. Because of this, our team had to re-do a lot of tedious coding work. It took us an additional four days of work, but in the end, everyone was delighted with our work, and it has resulted in new and creative opportunities for our department."
Written by Rachelle Enns
2nd Answer Example
"I would say that being in the software and technology business means changing major components on projects regularly. I am very well accustomed to changing gears at a moment's notice, as I do this on a near-daily basis in my current role. I can adapt very well."

5. What is more important - money or fame?
How to Answer
They are curious about what your motivators are and attempting to discern your big-picture lens. How you answer will reveal your leadership skills, whether you are primarily concerned about money more than recognition for the work or vice versa.
By validating this question from a leadership standpoint, you'll be able to navigate this question. Exhibit your understanding that some employees who receive constant praise and recognition, or those who are in it for the glory, wanting to be held in a higher status than others, throughout the year will be less let down by an average pay increase than if their accomplishments went unrecognized. Answering this question wrong could show that you are only in it for the money, which frames you as a less desirable candidate. The trick to answering this question is to exhibit an understanding of why they ask this question and display your big-picture thinking.
Written by Kevin Downey on May 27th, 2022
Answer Example
"I'd say they're not mutually exclusive. In any leadership setting, ensuring you're delivering prompt, often, and specific feedback creates greater engagement and a more rewarding experience for the team. It also allows each team member to know where they stand in their performance, keeping them in tune and out of the dark. But it is still necessary to reward their efforts through pay increases. Words are nice when it comes to praise, but actions speak louder than words."

6. When you are traveling, how do you decide on a hotel?
How to Answer
The interviewer is curious about your decision-making process when booking your hotel and travel needs. This question is a curious one, but it also tells the interviewer how you process and approach decision-making. It's easy to ramble on open-ended questions, so keep your answer to the point.
Written by Rachelle Enns
1st Answer Example
"I decide on a hotel after first figuring out where my activities will be. I then search for hotels within a radius of those activities. I have always used Hotels.com, as it's the site that I trust most for the best price and most accurate ratings."
Written by Rachelle Enns
2nd Answer Example
"When booking a hotel, I go to Expedia and sort the city's results by 'recommended.' I am careful to read reviews before booking. I know that Expedia offers the best price, so it's my one-stop-shop, along with your sister company, Hotels.com."

7. If you could choose one celebrity or influencer that is most like-minded to you, who would you choose?
How to Answer
The interviewer would like to see which type of celebrity or influencer you most identify with. This question may seem like a lot of fun to answer, but keep in mind that there is solid reasoning behind it. Imagine the difference of opinion the interviewer may have of you if you say you are most like Kanye West versus someone like Barack Obama! Give your reply, keeping it to the point. Support your answer with a genuine reason for choosing the person you did.
Written by Rachelle Enns
1st Answer Example
"If I could choose one influencer most like-minded to me, I would choose Ed Mylett. He is a major voice on peak performance strategies, possessing an entrepreneurial mindset in everything you do, and doing good things with life's blessings. His podcast is a big encouragement to me, and I appreciate that he never waivers from his values."
Written by Rachelle Enns
2nd Answer Example

In addition to being one of the world's largest female influencers in the business world, she is also a generous and intelligent human being. 8. Do you feel performance should be rewarded over experience?
How to Answer
The interviewer would like to know your thoughts on being paid based on your work performance versus being compensated solely on your years of experience. As millennial employees continue to dominate the work scene, more and more employees are requesting compensation based on delivered results. Consider if you feel that you should be paid based on tenure or results. Discuss this with the interviewer and back your answer with an example if possible.

1st Answer Example
"I feel that employees should be paid and rewarded based on their performance. A new employee will find motivation in being rewarded for performance, and it encourages healthy competition with tenured employees."

9. What was one question you didn't want me to ask today?
How to Answer
This question can stand in for the common 'What is your greatest weakness' question. The interviewer expects you to be unprepared because it's an uncommon way of asking this question. You may be less scripted than other points in your interview, and the interviewer wants to see how you deal with that.
Two scenarios commonly play out: either a candidate blurts out a weakness, or they pause and respond with something thoughtful. This question gives the interviewer information about you, but it also tells them if you can think on your feet and answer a tough question. Use this as an opportunity to show how a weakness can be a strength or explain something they have not yet asked but may be an objection to you getting the job. It is then up to you to overcome the opposition.
Remember, it is okay to pause and be thoughtful about your response rather than blurting something out or seeming too rehearsed. Be prepared, but be sincere in your replies.

Senior Level Example
"I suppose I did not want you to dig into why I applied three years ago and rescinded my application. I feel embarrassed about it because I thought I was ready to leave my current organization and decided that, to be the superstar I wanted to be at Expedia, I needed a bit more time and experience. I know that, in the past three years, I have learned everything I could need to know to shine here, and I can't wait to put those last three years of learning and growth into action."
Written by Rachelle Enns
Answer Example
"I didn't want to discuss why it took five years to graduate college. I was working full time while attending college and double majoring. Initially, I was taking the full course load and working full time; then, I switched my major, which added a semester. At that time, I hunkered down and upped the course load while working full time. So, while it may have taken me longer, I learned a lot about time management and upping productivity. I know these are important skills, and I look forward to leveraging them here at Expedia."

12. On a scale of one to ten, rate me as an interviewer.
How to Answer
This question tests your interpersonal skills, such as diplomacy. It reveals your respect for the person interviewing you, your scope of the big-picture, and your communication skills.
Do not rate them a ten out of ten. That will come across as sycophantic and will not gain you an advantage. Instead, rate them highly without being presumptuous or telling them how to do their job by offering criticism or suggestions. Instead, recognize the position they're in, the hard work behind conducting a tough interview, express appreciation for taking the time to interview you, and acknowledge their respectful and professional manner throughout the process.
Written by Kevin Downey on May 27th, 2022
Answer Example
"I'd give you a nine out of ten. Now, it's not my place to rate your performance, but I'd rate you highly for the respect and professionalism you've shown."

How to Answer
Some say that if you cannot quickly explain a concept in layman's terms, you do not understand it well enough. You should be able to explain Expedia's business model on a Grade 8 level. The interviewer is checking to see if you can do this. Keep your reply brief, and keep your words under three syllables!

1st Answer Example
"If I were to explain Expedia to someone who had never heard of you, I would say that Expedia is a website that acts as a search engine but only for the travel industry. It is a one-stop for searching for the best travel rates based on your needs. I would also mention that Expedia is great for flights, hotels, car rentals, cruises, and even luxury home rentals."
Written by Rachelle Enns

17. What do you know about Expedia?
Why the Interviewer Asks This Question
Your interviewer is curious to what extent you've prepared for your interview. Additionally, your interviewer is just as much a representative of their employee culture as any other member of their teams. So how engaging you are with your interviewer will give them a better idea of how well you will get along with their teams. So when sharing your company knowledge, share what stands out about the company or what you value them for.
For example, mentioning a little about Expedia's history, figures, or statistics might say you are analytically inclined and are more concerned about the numbers rather than their culture. Whereas someone who mentions how competitive it is to work there, or mentions the pay and benefits, might suggest they are less interested in the work culture, and more so with what they can gain from working there. However, someone who mentions the work culture and the growth opportunities might suggest a stronger alignment to their values, suggesting a better long-term fit.

What You Need to Know
Expedia Group also advises their candidates to prepare for their interview by learning everything they can about Expedia. But every recruiter recognizes that you won't be able to answer every question you have on your own. So, they strongly suggest that you "also prepare questions for us. This is an opportunity for you to get to know us, our culture and our requirements, so you'll be better able to determine if Expedia Group is right for you, so you can make an informed decision. These conversations are a great opportunity for you to ask about what's important to you. We're more interested in what you have to say and for you to get to know us. We welcome and encourage open dialogue that allows for a fulfilling conversation and an opportunity for you to share your experiences, while also learning more about the role, your team and Expedia Group culture. At Expedia Group, you'll have opportunities to grow your whole self. We support the whole you. The family you, the traveler you, the technologist you, the adventurer you."
Written by Kevin Downey on January 11th, 2024
Answer Example
"I know a little about the company's history, the former CEO who is now the CEO of Uber, and I know a little about your current CEO. But most of all, I know a bit about the company culture. Not just from what I've read online, but from a friend of mine who used to work for the company- that everyone here feels like family, all have similar priorities, and each is truly embraced for who they are. I could go on. But what I know most about Expedia is that it feels like the right fit for me."

18. Why should we hire you?
Why the Interviewer Asks This Question
Expedia explains that throughout your interview, they will attempt to assess "Your compatibility and how you'd add to our culture, your potential success in the role and impact in the longer term, your approach to mitigating challenging situations," with the aim of better understanding how well your work style complements their values. A few more of their noteworthy values are "Force simplicity. Drive clarity and create momentum. Focus on impactful work. Include consciously. Bring people in. Drive success for everyone around you. Seek out diverse ideas and experiences to unlock better outcomes for travelers and our company. Go Get What's Next."
Written by Kevin Downey on January 11th, 2024
What You Need to Know
Before going into your interview, have a clear understanding of how you fit their mold. Familiarize yourself with how they describe their people and their culture and then examine yourself and how you fit that description. Expedia Group offers similar advice on their careers site. "Take some time to reflect on your past experience and be prepared to share highlights. Life at Expedia Group is an endless adventure, full of opportunities to grow and learn, while also being a part of an open culture where everyone belongs. We're always hungry for a better future. We have big dreams, for ourselves, for Expedia Group, and for the possibilities opened up by travel. We're passionate about travel and its transformative power. We see opportunities instead of obstacles and love the journey as much as the destination. We're a vibrant collective of travelers, learners, creators and experience-makers who value being part of the team while staying true to ourselves."
Written by Kevin Downey on January 11th, 2024
Answer Example
"Because I feel like I would fit right in. I have always said that adventure is where you find it. You can have a little adventure collaborating with a colleague in a cubicle, or venturing left in Tangier, not knowing where that side street will take you. I am a great communicator, and coincidentally, driving clarity is also one of my values, except I always say push for clarity. Same with go get what's next, except I say, keep going for what's around the corner. I love challenging ideas and the next frontier is just outside one's comfort zone. I love to travel, team collaboration, forward-thinking, and adventure."

26. Tell me about yourself.
Why the Interviewer Asks This Question
The primary job of your interviewer is to get to know you as a professional and as a person. They need to have a clear understanding of who you are to gain a better feeling for whether you would fit in and feel as if this is the right fit for you. They also need to determine whether you are pursuing this position for all the right reasons. To continue to foster and grow the desirable and positive work culture they've built, they need to ensure whoever they hire next will be genuinely happy there, and will contribute to that growth.

Entry Level Example
"Since I was a kid, I considered myself an inventor. I built a treehouse, but there was no lighting inside and it could get pretty dark in there. So, inspired by Archimedes, I arranged a series of mirrors, tied to the tree branches, to redirect the rays of the sun and amplify the lighting within. So, from an early age, innovating has been my passion. I went to college abroad, and the new experience of travel excited me, and I was even more excited by collaborating with like minds, which there were few in the small town where I was raised. So, finding a career with a company that focuses on innovation through diverse collaboration, with a focus on travel, is exactly what I am looking for. And my job search has led me here."

30. What are your weaknesses?
Why the Interviewer Asks This Question
Your interviewer is curious to learn more about your professional development as you continue to "embark on this journey." One of their core values is "Trust Each Other. Stay accountable to each other to deliver on our commitments, and trust each other to get it done." So, your interviewer is curious whether they can trust you to take charge of your own development and continue to grow as a professional. How you answer will potentially offer insights into what a long-term relationship would look like with you on their team.

What You Need to Know
Another of Expedia's core values is, "Choose Fearlessly," which they define as "Own your decisions. Make mistakes. Move on. Start again." Also, Dara Khosrowshahi, who was president and chief executive of Expedia from 2001 to 2017, spoke about how he learned to be a better CEO, and why he felt failure is useful. "Speed gives you the luxury to fail. Failure can teach you something, and as long as you're moving very, very quickly, you're going to start piling up the wins. Speed gives you the luxury to be able to fail."

Answer Example
"I would say that my biggest growth opportunity is to better communicate my accomplishments. My previous boss often called me a stealth worker. Frequently, he'd notice something was done, and they thought it was great, but no matter who they asked, no one knew who got that work done or who did such an amazing job. The thing is, my time management skills are pretty strong, so I typically finish early and always find other ways to help out. I previously looked at it as just earning my keep and doing right by my team. So, it felt wrong to come across as a braggart. But, my boss said I should be spreading awareness because without knowing exactly where I am developmentally, they couldn't properly coach me or recognize the full extent of my leadership potential. So, even though it is difficult for me, I have gotten better with letting my leaders know what I've accomplished, and running my ideas for improvements by them before just jumping into them, in case they have a greater priority they'd prefer to trust me with."

33. At Expedia, we take pride in our ability to stay one step ahead of our competitors. How will you contribute to this trend?
How to Answer
There are very few travel sites larger than Expedia Group, and Expedia has purchased and taken over its competitors in the past, like Travelocity and Orbitz. It is critical to research Expedia and its most vigorous competitors before your interview. Find out what Expedia does best and who is trying to do it better. Speak openly with the interviewer about your ability to work competitively and how you plan to contribute to their continued success.
Written by Rachelle Enns
1st Answer Example
"I believe the best way to stay ahead of your competitors is to pay attention to the fine details. When you put out a great product, others will try to mimic your work, but they will cut corners because they feel rushed to get it out on the marketplace first. I will contribute to the success of Expedia by committing my most attentive work to you every day."
Written by Rachelle Enns
2nd Answer Example
"I think that the best way to stay ahead of competitors is to keep your projects as simple as possible while remaining innovative. People want simple, easy services they can understand. 36. How was your performance measured in your most recent role?
How to Answer
The interviewer would like to understand the key performance indicators you needed to meet in a recent role and how those KPIs were measured. A good interviewer will recognize that the top candidates always understand how their performance is measured and where they landed in regards to their performance against others in a similar role.
It is a red flag to an interviewer if the interviewee responds with 'I don't know,' or worse yet - 'My company didn't measure my performance in any way.' Every company pays attention to employee performance metrics; it's just that some ways are more evident than others.
Some ways that your employer might measure your performance:
- The rate of absence, late days, and sick days
- Setting specific objectives for you related to a task
- Amount of defective work submitted or amount of work returned
- Human Capital ROI
- Error counting
- Timed tasks
- Employee retention rates (for managers)
- Revenue Per Employee or Profit per FTE (Full Time Equivalent)
- The willingness of clients to recommend you or your work
- Feedback provided by coworkers and management
- Number of sales
- Scheduling errors
- Safety days
- First- call resolution or call quality and handling (primarily for call-center environments)
- Quality of contacts generated

How to Answer
The interviewer wants to learn if there are improvements to your team you'd like to see and how you'll approach the topic.
Think about the qualities you'd like to see on your team that would not reflect negatively on the quality of your team mentality or leadership. Try to look at the situation rather than derogating your team or laying blame on any underperformers.
Written by Kevin Downey on May 27th, 2022
Answer Example
"A few members of our team have so much potential, but they are risk-averse. They rarely step outside their comfort zone and fall on the introverted side.
