Question 17 of 39

What do you know about Expedia?

"I know a little about the company's history, the former CEO who is now the CEO of Uber, and I know a little about your current CEO. But most of all, I know a bit about the company culture. Not just from what I've read online, but from a friend of mine who used to work for the company- that everyone here feels like family, all have similar priorities, and each is truly embraced for who they are. I could go on. But what I know most about Expedia is that it feels like the right fit for me."

Why the Interviewer Asks This Question

Your interviewer is curious to what extent you've prepared for your interview. Additionally, your interviewer is just as much a representative of their employee culture as any other member of their teams. So how engaging you are with your interviewer will give them a better idea of how well you will get along with their teams. So when sharing your company knowledge, share what stands out about the company or what you value them for.

For example, mentioning a little about Expedia's history, figures, or statistics might say you are analytically inclined and are more concerned about the numbers rather than their culture. Whereas someone who mentions how competitive it is to work there, or mentions the pay and benefits, might suggest they are less interested in the work culture, and more so with what they can gain from working there. However, someone who mentions the work culture and the growth opportunities might suggest a stronger alignment to their values, suggesting a better long-term fit.

      What You Need to Know

Expedia Group also advises their candidates to prepare for their interview by learning everything they can about Expedia. But every recruiter recognizes that you won't be able to answer every question you have on your own. So, they strongly suggest that you "also prepare questions for us. This is an opportunity for you to get to know us, our culture and our requirements, so you'll be better able to determine if Expedia Group is right for you, so you can make an informed decision. These conversations are a great opportunity for you to ask about what's important to you. We're more interested in what you have to say and for you to get to know us. We welcome and encourage open dialogue that allows for a fulfilling conversation and an opportunity for you to share your experiences, while also learning more about the role, your team and Expedia Group culture. At Expedia Group, you'll have opportunities to grow your whole self. We support the whole you. The family you, the traveler you, the technologist you, the adventurer you."
