Public speaking can be intimidating for any person, but it will likely be part of your duties as an Administrative Fellow. Whether you will be speaking to groups of providers, fellow leaders, staff, or board members, your interviewers need to be assured that you are comfortable presenting information to groups of people and this question allows you to speak openly about your experience and comfort in doing so.

"Fortunately, I have plenty of experience presenting to large groups and am comfortable doing so as long as I am knowledgeable on the topic and have time to prepare. Right now, I am our AUPHA president at my school and I speak at our monthly meetings. I am comfortable presenting in both in-person and virtual settings as I've had to do so in both settings over the last year. I also spoke at a state meeting with regional healthcare leaders. Prior to that meeting, I prepared all of my materials and presentation and worked to prepare myself ahead of time for follow-up questions."

It is certainly okay to find public speaking a bit intimidating, but you ultimately want to assure your interviewers that you would join their Administrative Fellowship program willing and ready to present to any groups that you would be asked. As you answer, talk about times during your schooling when you had to present to large groups and walk through how you prepared and handled the duty. This is a great time to also discuss any formal public speaking training you may have received.

Fortunately, I do have a lot of experience speaking in front of large groups as the training director of my organization. I hold monthly meetings where I review policy updates and guide our staff through key operational and SOP changes as well. As long as I know my information well and have time to prepare I feel very confident in giving these presentations.
Marcie's Feedback
What do you do to prepare beforehand so you know the information and feel confident? Don't forget to walk the interviewer through these details as well. Including a specific example of a time when you gave an engaging and informative presentation in front of a large group will also make your answer more memorable to the interviewer. Remember, the more details, the better! Good job!

I have experience presenting to large groups, both in-person and virtually. I prepare by thoroughly researching the topic, asking questions during the presentation, and anticipating follow-up questions to keep everyone engaged and involved.

Jaymie's Feedback
Great start! Can you give more detail on the size of groups you present to and the frequency with which you do so? Consider also adding context around specific topics you've presented on and what platforms you have used (PowerPoint, Zoom, etc.) to help give the interviewer more insight into your particular skills and experience. If you've received positive feedback on your presentation style or abilities in the past, feel free to share that in your response to reinforce your skills in this area. Also, don't forget to add into your first sentence that reassurance that you are comfortable doing so.
