What do you think might be the greatest challenge you face as an Administrative Fellow? How will you overcome this challenge?

Even though it may seem like a dream job, the interviewer wants to know that you have realistic expectations of the role and that you will not be blindsided if problems or challenges present themselves. They ideally want to hear is that you are cognizant of what will challenge you and that you have thought about preparing for that challenge ahead of time

"In all honesty, I think the greatest challenge will come in my initial weeks on the job and learning all of the key stakeholders and the organizational layout of your institution. Once I found out I had matched here, I would want to start communicating with the leaders that would be mentoring me and that I would be working closely with. This would allow me to hit the ground running on day one."

First and foremost, keep your answer simple. You could choose to talk about a particular rotation that you are inexperienced in or common challenges that any new person faces when they start a job with a news organization. No matter how you answer, be sure to come up with a plan for how you plan to tackle this challenge head-on and with success.

I believe my greatest challenge will be during my first few weeks as I familiarize myself with all the policies, procedures, my leaders, and the organizational structure. However, once I have learned and begun to communicate with those close to my mentor, I will be able to overcome these challenges.

As with any new role, there is a learning curve, so it's natural for that training and onboarding to be challenging. It's great to reassure the interviewer that you have a positive mindset and are willing and able to learn quickly!
