Question 22 of 35

Tell me about the last time you made a mistake. How did you handle it?

"A while back, I only checked one of the three credit reports and misinformed a client of their chances of receiving a loan. Our system went down after I checked one report; it was the end of the day, and they were anxious to hear an answer and kept calling, so I was overconfident with what I saw and told them their chances were good. The next day, when I looked at the other two reports, I quickly realized they wouldn't qualify for the loan. I felt bad, and when I called and explained the situation, they were understandably disappointed. To make up for it, I passed on several links on how to aggressively clean up your credit report. I explained if they took these steps, they could reapply and likely qualify. They took my advice and three months later qualified for the loan."

      What You Need to Know

One of TD Bank's shared commitments is, 'Act like an owner; lead with integrity.' This question focuses on your integrity and character. Your interviewer is interested in learning whether you try to hurry and correct your mistakes before anyone finds out, cover them up and hide them, or own up to them immediately and make decisions based on protecting your company's assets and reputation. Most importantly, this question centers on whether you take ownership of your actions. As they say in their code of conduct, "TD is committed to conducting its affairs to the highest standards of ethics, integrity, honesty, fairness, and professionalism, in every respect, without exception, and at all times."
