Whether the role you are interviewing for is a forward-facing role with their customers or a back-end support role, providing excellent service is vital in any position with the company. Your interviewer is looking for a specific answer that showcases your ability to deliver exceptional customer service.

"I often look for opportunities to go over and above when it comes to customer service. One memorable time was when a senior woman was struggling to get her groceries into her car. I was on break but saw her through the window. I ran out and greeted her, asking if I could assist. She was so thankful that she ended up calling my manager that day to compliment my kindness."

"When I worked in the healthcare industry, I had a patient who had their service dog into the hospital with them as they were dying. There was not enough time to get the patient to hospice, so the charge nurse said we should make the patient as comfortable as possible in his room. The patient had no family or friends that would visit, and we had become friends in the two weeks he was in the ICU. As the patient was dying, he asked if I would look after his dog Charlie when he passed. I told him I would and kept my word. I was not allowed to have pets where I lived and found a house with a backyard so I could keep Charlie."

Several times in the course of my job colleagues would mention they were facilitating a large meeting at the site and weren't sure about coordinating the logistics given their timetables. I always found time in my schedule to drive to the site and help them set up tables and get consumables for their meeting. One time this even required me to learn our new procurement process because I needed to issue a PO for a promotional item the colleague wanted to pass out at the meeting. There were other times I did similar things for specific customers who needed things like a bottle of media that was not labeled - in which case I worked with our regulatory team and the customer to find a solution the FDA would like (a label on the bottom of the bottle as opposed to the sides).
