'Biotechnology' refers to using cells and molecules to create a product within medicine, genetic testing, or even agriculture. Since Cardinal Health delves into the biotech arena, your interviewer wants to be assured that you have some knowledge of recent advancements in the field, regardless of the position you are interviewing for.

"There have been so many developments in biotechnology the past three years, but I do feel that the biggest was the development in gene editing. It's an incredibly controversial and intriguing practice and I think many more things will come in this area in the next five to ten years."

"There is a multitude of biotech developments from which to choose! I was recently reading about these new methods of manipulating human cells to beat a range of diseases. According to Fortune Magazine, Chinese scientists have launched the first CRISPR gene-editing trial for the treatment of cancer. It's all pretty incredible, isn't it?"

Before your interview, be sure to research recent biotechnology advancements in recent years. A quick internet search shows the latest trends and innovations in biotechnology in 2022 put out by the Dr. B. Lal Institute of Biotechnology. The top five are 1.) Precision medicines, 2.) Artificial intelligence and big data, 3.) Biofuels, 4.) Tissue engineering and regenerative medicines, and 5.) Food biotechnology and agriculture. Discuss one or two of the recent advancements and try to relate the advancement to the role or position you are interviewing for.

"The biotechnology industry has exploded in the past three years, so it is hard to choose one development. However, one of the most significant developments is the use of biotech in medicine. I read that more than 250 biotechnology healthcare products are now available to treat previously untreatable conditions. Biotech also reduces infectious disease rates, helps those with illnesses in developing countries, and creates personalized medicine specific to an individual. I cannot wait to see what further developments we'll see in the next few years."

I guess this is where the fake meat response might be more appropriate. The ability to grow protein-rich meat from the cells of an animal has large-reaching and incredible implications for the entire world. If we can do it cheaply enough, it could eliminate hunger in many starved countries.
