The pharmaceutical and medical supplies distribution industry is a dog-eat-dog world, where competition continuously seeks to take Cardinal Health's business away. Your interviewer would like to know if you have a competitive spirit and if you would bring it to this role in a healthy and productive manner.

"I think that on a scale of 1-10, I would rate myself as a 7 when it comes to being competitive. I love a great competition in the workplace when it comes to sales goals and breaking through last year's numbers. I am not competitive to the point that it would hurt my team or colleagues though. In my current industry, competition is stiff for business and my competitive side always has me providing top-notch service to my customers to help maintain and grow our business with them."

Being a competitive person is an excellent thing if you are appropriately competitive in the workplace. Assure the interviewer that you have a tremendous competitive edge when necessary but can balance that competition healthily on the job. If possible, discuss where your competitive nature stems from and talk about any prior roles that required a competitive edge. Then, explain how that competitive nature will transfer to the position you are interviewing for.

"I am a highly competitive person. From a young age, I played competitive sports, which taught me how to be an excellent team player and a good sport. My competitive spirit would translate nicely to this role at Cardinal Health, as I always strive to exceed the company's goals. However, I am not competitive with my colleagues in the sense that I would ever do anything to harm them to make myself look better."

I have always been self-competitive, meaning that I want to do better each time I try a task. When I'm part of a team, I also want that team to succeed, and am willing to help others as needed to make that happen.

Jaymie's Feedback
Striving to improve your own performance while also helping the team achieve goals are good attributes that will transfer well into the role at Cardinal Health.
