Customer service is crucial to success in the healthcare and pharmaceutical supply industry. Given that customer needs continuously change due to the fluid and evolving nature of healthcare, every Cardinal Health employee must diligently complete their work. Some tasks will require a keener eye and additional diligence than others. The company has a PDF document called the Standards of Business Conduct given to every employee and contractor when hired. Here is an excerpt from the document showing how precise and accurate they expect their employees to be:
'Employees who create or maintain reports, records or any other information must take care to review the accuracy of
that information and not create a false or misleading report. Particular diligence is needed when working with:
o Documents filed with or submitted to governments or
regulatory agencies
o Expense reports
o Financial statements and related accounting entries
and adjustments
o Production and quality records
o Time reports'
Your interviewer wants to hear you discuss a time during your career when your work had to be thorough and detailed.
"I have to be extra thorough from time to time when I have clients that are especially detail-oriented. Often this will mean spending additional time on calls with them to highlight project changes. I am okay with being extra thorough when needed."

Ryan Brunner has over ten years of experience recruiting, interviewing, and hiring candidates in the healthcare, public service, and private manufacturing/distribution industries.
"I am always thorough, but we do have monthly team meetings where we discuss our performance metrics. That reporting takes a little longer and more attention to detail and I'm always happy to take that time to ensure that metrics are correct."

Discuss when you were extra thorough during a work-related task or project. Discuss the situation, the reasoning for thoroughness being required, and your process for entailing that every detail was correct. Assure the interviewer that you will always be detailed in your work if hired for the position.

"I pride myself on my attention to detail and thoroughness in any task or assignment I am given. Most recently, the department head asked me to compile data for an audit the following week. I had to go through two years of data in one short week, making sure we had everything in order to pass the audit. I worked 20 hours of overtime that week to make it work, and we passed the audit without any issues."

My role as a liaison is to always be extra thorough and detailed with patient assessments. For example, I extrapolate data and other information from the patient's clinical, I then communicate to the clinical team why the patient meets long-term acute care criteria. I have been very successful with 100% approval from the clinical team.

Stephanie's Feedback
This is an excellent specific example--attention to detail is so important! To make your response even stronger, you may wish to include an example of how you practice thoroughness (for example, have you found an organizational system that works well for you? Do you routinely check your work? How do you make sure your work is free of errors?)
Anonymous Answer
Working in an FDA-regulated industry like we do requires thoroughness every step of the way in each task. Specifically with documentation and NPI, product creation requires us to be extremely thorough and we create a system with double checks just to make sure.

You're off to a great start! Can you give an example of a technique, strategy, or system you use to complete tasks accurately (IE ensuring you complete documentation timely and properly or ensuring the data for reports is entered correctly)?
