Working as an Academic Support Coordinator will put you in a position to help students set academic goals for themselves. Because you will most often be working with students that are struggling academically, setting challenging goals will be necessary. Before your interview, you must prepare to discuss why goal setting is so important for struggling students. Don't hesitate to talk about the fact that university life often brings about the first time a student has a lot of freedom and a less disciplined approach to each day. Then, be prepared to discuss the importance of the full spectrum of the goal setting and achievement process.

"Because most of your student body is experiencing true independence away from home for the first time in their lives, some students will struggle with adapting to college life even when they have the smarts to succeed in the classroom. With each student that I worked with, the key to setting goals would be to find the root cause of their academic issues first and then work with them to set goals that will get them back on the right track. For me, tracking goals would be critical so that students are accountable for the necessary steps in achieving their goals. As well, documentation of progress will help me monitor the progress of the student."

College is an interesting time in a student's life, they are experiencing true freedom. This may pose a problem for students not yet ready to adapt to college life despite being at the top academically. My goal will be to identify the root cause of their issues and then work with them to set goals to overcome the issues. As a teacher, I made my student track their goals and had them write down tasks that they would do to ensure they met their goal.
