On their career site, UnitedHealth Group clearly outlines the required and preferred qualifications they have for any position they are recruiting for. This includes required education, preferred degree levels, and any licensing and work experience qualifications they have. If you've been invited to interview there, your interviewer is confident that your education meets at least the minimum educational requirements they have. To take it a step further, they want to hear you explain how your education and training have prepared you to join their team and be successful. The important piece that they will be looking for you to connect is taking what you have learned in your past and applying it to the duties you will be performing at UHG, so make sure to put some thought into this.

"As you can see from my resume, I obtained my bachelor's degree in nursing back in 2008 and immediately began working in a behavioral health setting. My passion has always been there and my goal in nursing school was to continue to work with patients that had both complex medical and behavioral needs. My program gave me a very thorough understanding of care in the inpatient and outpatient setting and that gave me a good foundation for how I have spent my career. On top of my degree, I have become a Certified Care Manager and have received extensive training in trauma-informed care and stages of change. I know all of this education and training will help serve me well in this role at UnitedHealth Group."

My experience as a Member Services Representative gave me the passion and desire to work in the medical industry. I have continued in my position, having direct contact with patients in the role of Hospital Biller. That position drove my desire to continue my education and seek an Associate degree in Medical Assisting. I pursued a continuing education program in Medical Billing and Coding to expand my knowledge of the work that I was doing as a Hospital Biller.

Cindy's Feedback
Good, can you also explain what about being a Member Services Representative led you to pursue this career path?

My passion for caring for people gave me the desire to pursue the medical field. I started as a CNA doing homecare. That position drove me to continue my education to become a certified medical assistant/ phlebotomist. After working as a CMA for a few years, I enrolled in the nursing program at FTCC. These combinations of experiences would give me a perfect base for a position at UHG.

I have a law degree, and my career has primarily been focused on contract negotiation, drafting, and review, which is the primary nature of this role. I have experience with a wide variety of agreements, as well as experience with different situations that come with particular types of agreements, to give me a strong background to be successful in this role.
Marcie's Feedback
It's awesome that you have a law degree. What kind of training have you received in subsequent positions that are also relevant to this new role? Can you also go into more detail about the types of agreements and situations you've handled and how this experience has helped to prepare you for this position?

My experience as an internal medicine NP and my physical/health assessment skills as an FNP have prepared me for the Housecall NP position. As an internal medicine NP, I assess pt in the ED and have them admitted to the hospital when needed. I made rounds on pt in the hospital and ordered diagnostics workup for evaluation and treatment, and initiated a TX plan. I made referrals to other specialty providers for further evaluation and TX when needed.
