UnitedHealth Group wants to be assured that the person they hire is a solid long-term fit that fits into their mission-focused team and high-performing culture that has helped their business thrive since 1977. To get at your sense of passion and commitment, your interviewer wants to hear you discuss what you know and have learned about the company and that you see it as a great long-term fit for yourself. Showing that you've done your research on the organization will go a long way in proving your desire to learn more and thrive there. Also, be sure to highlight additional things you learned during your interview that further impress you about UHG and your future potential there.

"UnitedHealth Group's rich and innovative history is certainly inspiring and I learned all about the history here from a current staff member that I know well. To read about and hear about your rise to the number five spot on the Fortune 500 list is certainly something that I would love to be a part of in the future. The interview process has certainly opened my eyes more to the wonderful workplace culture this team has and how collaboration with different work units makes bigger things happen daily. I have no doubt that a future with UnitedHealth Group would be personally and professionally fulfilling for me."

After reviewing the UHG website, I see that you have collaborated with the United Health Foundation aiming to build a healthy community. There has been an increase in anxiety and suicide in our teen population especially since the pandemic and I think it is awesome that you are addressing the urgent need for support in this matter. This is what makes me even more excited to join UHG!

Amanda's Feedback
This is a solid start and shows you've done some research into the company. However, you can make your response even stronger by drawing connections between the company's core values of integrity, compassion, innovation, etc., and your own personal values. If there are additional at-risk communities/populations or healthcare issues that you've worked to address in the past that match up with the company's recent initiatives or projects you can share them to show how you've translated your values into action.

UnitedHealth Group is a health and well-being company that offers two distinct businesses under its umbrella. First, UnitedHealthcare offers a full range of health insurance benefits. The second is Optum, which offers care aided by technology, and data, and empowers people and providers with the guidance and tools they need to achieve optimum health. Being a company of more than 340,000 employees, the role that you are interviewing for likely works in one small corner of UnitedHealth Group's much larger business. In asking this question, your interviewer simply wants to know that you've done your homework on their organization. Prior to your interview, research UnitedHealth Group as much as you can so that you can speak knowledgeably and passionately about joining them.
Marcie's Feedback
I agree with the interview coach's advice! Do your homework so you can show the interviewer that you are knowledgeable about the company and why you want to join it. (The top part of your answer above includes some great information about the company that you should definitely use!)
