Kaiser Permanente's rise to prominence in the American healthcare landscape is due in large part to their ability to build strong and long-lasting relationships. From the 12.5 million members they cover to the thousands of vendors they work with in providing care, you will play an essential part of this and your interviewer wants to hear your honest assessment of your ability to build strong relationships. As you discuss any of the positive and beneficial relationships you have nurtured during your career, make sure to talk about your ability to be a great communicator, be a helper, keep your commitments, and collaboratively celebrate wins together as part of the Kaiser Permanente team.

"This is obviously such a vital part of our work and something I would always take great pride in if I'm fortunate enough to join the Kaiser Permanente team. I do consider myself to be a great relationship builder because of my open communication skills and the respect that I show for all that I work with. The colleagues I've worked alongside and patients that I have cared for all appreciate my honest assessment of things and my ability to lend a helping hand when needed. If I make a commitment, I stick to it and discuss any hiccups I may overcome along the way. Outside of that, people always find that I am positive and having fun in my work and this leads to such a better working atmosphere."

I believe I have good customer service with my patients, and coworkers because I treat them with respect, ask them how are they doing. I even talk about what they are going through. I'm a good listener, and my coworkers and patients like that about me.

It sounds as though you have exceptional patient service skills! Any hiring authority should feel comfortable putting you in front of their valued customer base. I've cleaned up your answer slightly to more successfully deliver your message.
My customer service skills with my patients are definitely one of my strengths. I am a people person and build relationships with my coworkers and patients alike. I treat everyone with respect, am a great listener, frequently check in on how everyone is doing, and pride myself on my communication skills. People feel pretty comfortable with me and often open up about what they’re going through or share their personal lives with me. I listen, mirror, validate, and empathize. If they want help, I’ll help any way I can.

Well done! You've confirmed that you're a great relationship builder and explained what kind of task-oriented skills help you nurture lasting relationships. You can improve this answer further by explaining what interpersonal skills you possess that make you a valuable team member and provider such as active listening, cultural sensitivity, patience, and adaptability. These softer skills can be vital to show others that you value them and their contributions, which helps build strong, reciprocal relationships.

It is part of our role as a clinician to build strong relationships with our clients during the therapeutic process so this process comes naturally to me when it comes to others who are not my client. Building a strong relationship makes a healthier work environment, coordinating care is more successful, and building a great relationship with peers makes the work day more enjoyable.

Jaymie's Feedback
Great! If you can include a couple of techniques you use to build trust and relationships, feel free to share those as well.

I can connect on a more personable level with my coworkers and that helps create an efficient working environment. I can easily build a relationship based on trust and compassion with new people. I know that I can give customers a memorable experience where they will want to come back.
