Kaiser Permanente's model of care involves both the non-profit insurance coverage and frontline clinical care of patients which is certainly unique, and this connected system of care is important for any new employee to understand and embrace. In hoping to hear that you'll prioritize a well-rounded model of care, your interviewer asks to hear you discuss your personal patient care philosophy if you are being considered for a patient-facing role there. Knowing that their care is founded on cutting-edge technology, evidence-based care, and a compassionate approach, try to exude these philosophies in your approach to working closely with patients. Hopefully, you have a real-life story you can share that further enforces your philosophy.

"The one thing that has always drawn me to a career at Kaiser Permanente is your streamlined approach to making care accessible, affordable, hassle-free, and personalized for your patients. It's a model I would love to be a part of. My approach to patient care is treating them as I would treat my own family, listening to their needs, answering their questions, and ensuring they walk away from our time together more knowledgeable about their health and well-being. With a personal touch, patients are more apt to being engaged in their own outcomes and that has such a positive impact down the road for them."

Do my job and do it right. Try to do the best I can for patients and remember always to be compassionate with them and treat them like I want my family members to be treated, and go the extra mile helping them.

Rachelle's Feedback
This is a personal and caring approach. I really like this answer! Just some food for thought...how does this response align with the Kaiser Permanente philosophy? Are there shared values that you could also mention?

Since I was a patient as a child for an extended time, I empathize with the patient to attempt to anticipate their anxiety, frustration, and needs. I talk to my co-workers at every level and try to learn something every day. My goal is to take care of patients, even if I have a brief interaction like I would want my family and friends to be taken care of.

Amanda's Feedback
Your patient care philosophy encompasses the values or beliefs that support the way you care for patients. You can enhance this response further by explaining that you strive to treat every patient as if they were a friend or family member - providing the same level of dedication and care you would if the person were close to you by putting their health interests first and never forgetting that he or she is a person who may be scared, sick, or anxious about what is happening.

I’m very focused on patient education and it’s very important to make sure patients know what’s going on with their eyes and understand why something has to be done, like a referral out to a different department or special testing.

Jaymie's Feedback
This is a good philosophy to share! Can you go into more detail on what impact this has had on patient care or how your philosophy would make an impact at Kaiser?
Anonymous Answer
Kaiser aims to provide quality care and prioritize the members' needs. My patient care philosophy aligns with that goal as I too aim to prioritize the members' needs by building a trusting therapeutic relationship, being a good listener, and providing tools and interventions to help prevent major crisis in their mental health.

Jaymie's Feedback
It's great that you've researched the mission of Kaiser Permanente and were able to incorporate your philosophy alignment in your response. Well done!
