Sudden changes will occur in the workplace on occasion. This question tests your ability to adapt and cope with stress. Your answer will help your interviewer assess your emotional intelligence. Someone who keeps calm under pressure, remains grounded, and thinks fast could be considered decisive and resourceful. Someone who freezes up and suffers from task paralysis would be considered dominated by their emotions and less emotionally intelligent. Assure the interviewer that you can respond quickly and professionally and are resourceful in finding solutions in even the highest pressures working environments.

I frequently experience situations where I need to respond quickly to change. For example, I work on several client issues at one time, and must quickly prioritize tasks and needs to ensure everyone is assisted. Clients often call upset due to their situation, and I am able to de-escalate the call efficiently and expeditiously.

At a community recovery site after Hurricane Irma, I was assigned to manage crowd control 20 minutes before opening. I set up teams to get clients in the parking lot safely, guide the crowd to the offices, and transport our senior and disabled clients safely to the site. No safety breaches occurred and I responded to being a crowd control manager from insurance worker within minutes.

I frequently experienced situations in my previous role at Lilburn First Baptist Church where I needed to respond quickly to change. For example, I was responsible for managing facilities and accounts receivable for 12 separate language churches. Therefore, it was necessary to prioritize tasks and requests quickly to meet each congregation's needs.
Marcie's Feedback
Good answer! It definitely sounds like you needed to be on top of things and able to think quickly on your feet in your previous role. Was there a specific instance during that time that you could talk about that involved a sudden change that you had to deal with and adapt to? If so, consider discussing that as well.
