Question 3 of 35

Would you rather be the worst player on the best team or the best player on the worst team?

"If I were the best player on a losing team, I suppose that would be quite the challenge to train my teammates to get them to improve. But if helping train and develop them wasn't the goal of being on that team, I would choose to be the worst player on the best team. That would present an incredible opportunity to improve my skills. I assume if every other player is better than me, they've all got there from helping each other out. So, that's a team I not only want to be a part of, but I would look forward to being as good as through collaboration and humble learning."

      What You Need to Know

This question speaks to your leadership potential, sense of team collaboration, and motivation. The nuance is all in how you answer this question. Choosing to be the worst player on the best team could imply your desire to grow and learn from the best and exhibit your self-awareness, motivation, and integrity, which all speak to your greater emotional intelligence. Proclaiming you'd rather be the best player on the losing team could suggest less regard for your fellow teammates and that you are in it for yourself rather than the welfare of the team, preferring to look better compared to those around you. So, be careful in how you answer this question.

"Easy I was the worst player ON the best softball team as a small girl. I was able to learn from the best and grow my own skills. In business, I’d prefer the same. Surrounding myself with people I can learn from is more important to me than being the smartest person in the room."
