The interviewer wants to get an idea of what kind of leader you are. This is important because you will be managing people and projects. Talk about a time when you successfully led a group. Be sure to explain what type of leadership style you typically ascribe to (whether it be participative, authoritarian, delegative, transactional, transformational, or another type).
"My leadership style has likely evolved over the years, but I would say that, in general, I am more of a participative leader. I lead in this way because I like to involve others in the decision-making process. I highly value the thoughts and opinions of the people around me and like to consider them when I'm making decisions. Having said that, though, I recognize and embrace the fact that I am the person who ultimately makes the call. Within my current role, I work with several other teams on a daily basis and lead my own. The people on my team are public relations specialists who collaborate and carry out the campaigns that we take on. In many cases, they also write the press releases and arrange the logistics for corporate events that I ultimately review and oversee. While I listen to the feedback of others before making decisions, I make decisive and quick decisions as needed."
