Public Relations Managers need to be decisive because they are usually in charge of leading numerous campaigns, events, and people. Talk to the interviewer about a time when you had to think quickly on your feet. Use the STAR (situation, task, action, result) method to clearly explain what happened and how the situation ended successfully.
"A couple of years ago, I worked as a Public Relations Manager for a company that ended up in hot water because some of its manufacturing processes were found to be damaging to the environment. I needed to move quickly to control the company's public image. After confirming that the company had ended these damaging practices, I arranged meetings with the advertising and marketing teams to brainstorm actions we could take to protect the company's image and reputation. Together we decided to run an advertising campaign that used TV and the internet to show consumers the things the company was changing and to highlight what it was proactively doing for the environment. We also held an event for stakeholders that directly confronted the issue and educated them about what the company was doing to become more environmentally conscious. In the end, customer surveys showed that these quick actions had kept the company's reputation and image intact, even spurring additional recognition and business for the company."
