"I handle stress very well, and when you call my references, they will attest to this fact. When I am under pressure on the job, I focus on the task at hand and make sure not to get distracted. Staying on deadline is very helpful, and I will delegate when necessary to alleviate some stress."

"I am accustomed to high-stress levels from my post-secondary studies and am well prepared to handle stress in the workplace as well. At times of peak stress, I ensure that I eat well, exercise, and get enough rest. It's simple but makes all the difference."

"Stress is part of any demanding job, and I embrace it fully. I take good care of myself and prioritize my workload to maintain a healthy balance in my stress levels. I find taking breaks throughout the day helps to clear my mind and recharge. I also prioritize my tasks and tackle them individually rather than feeling overwhelmed by everything at once. Additionally, I maintain a healthy work-life balance by making time for hobbies and activities outside of work. I remember asking for help or support when needed, and communicating openly with coworkers and supervisors about any challenges or concerns is okay. Balancing work and self-care is key to managing stress on the job."

There are a few reasons why the interviewer asks how you handle stress on the job as an academic advisor. This type of role can often be demanding and require a lot of multitasking and problem-solving, so they want to ensure you can handle that pressure. Additionally, students may come to you with a variety of issues and concerns, and it's essential that you can remain calm and supportive in those situations. Lastly, they want to understand how you prioritize self-care and manage your stress levels since burnout is a common issue in this field. Describe what you do to decompress from the stressors of the job and provide self-care on your days off.

I handle stress well on the job. Whenever I am under pressure or stress I commit to a personal deadline and a to-do list to help accomplish the important things I need to do in a given day. I embrace the stress and carry on with a positive attitude. I give myself reminders to drink water and eat my lunch because I know how easy it is to forget about self-care. Self-care and positive affirmation are important to me, especially when dealing with stress.
