The interviewer would like to know what resources you prefer to utilize when advising your students on their potential career choices. Give at least two strong examples if you can. This shows that you are well-rounded and able to offer variety to your students. As an academic advisor, you have access to various resources to help students explore potential careers. These resources may include career assessment tests, job shadowing and internship opportunities, career fairs, and networking events with industry professionals. Additionally, you might recommend websites and online tools that can assist students in researching different career paths and job opportunities.
Describe a few of your favorite resources and why you prefer using them. At the end of your response, be sure to ask the interviewer if they have any recommendations or favorites as well. This can strike up a friendly and informative conversation.

"I like to take a well-rounded and modern approach when it comes to the resources I offer my students. These days, if it isn't online or available on a device, they simply don't follow through on the resource. For this reason, my top 2 resources are Gladeox.org where students can take an online career quiz as well as utilize other resources for career discovery. The second resource I frequently use is 16personalities.com. It's a fun, interactive, and incredibly focused personality quiz which gives career suggestions based on your core characteristics. Students enjoy using some of the online resources I offer them during sessions. These include personality tests on websites such as icould, Prospects, and the National Careers Development website. With London Met students, Prospects would be useful in helping navigate through career paths and job profiles. And GradTouch could be beneficial for students to search for industry placements and internships.

There are a couple of resources that I use frequently with the students My Career Shines and focus2 which are software the college offers and are very effective. There are other options online that are very good like for instance, 16personalities.com or Gladeox.org.

In progress: In addition to Career Coach on our website, I primarily use Oregon Career Information Systems (CIS) and indeed.com. Students can use both interchangeably. You can input your major area into Indeed.com as well as into UO CIS. Now O*Net Online has a new look and I'm looking at that more closely
When searching an explorer can drill down to the specific tasks and choose those that most appeal to them. Then they can search in Oregon CIS and Indeed.com and continue to build that way.
We have excellent proven resources you can use and the great thing is that you can work at your own pace. The more time you devote to it the more you will find out. It will begin a little slowly with the assessments and then it can really take off. These are skills and resources you can use for a long time. Every time you are looking for work or changing careers or degrees.
I usually ask students how motivated they are to discover potential careers. I say that I have resources that have proven to work and ask if they are interested and will follow through. If the student is interested I let them know that the process builds slowly.

They can return and work with someone in our office or reach out to program faculty.
Eventually informational interviewing, job shadowing, and internships would be ideal
