The interviewer wants to know more about your career progression. If nothing has changed much over the past couple of years in your position, focus on what you have learned. Start by looking back at your previous five-year career plans, map out your career journey, the goals you've achieved, the obstacles you've overcome, and the milestones you've surpassed that got you to where you are today. If this is your first time creating a five-year career plan, reflect on your previous performance reviews, the additional responsibilities you earned, promotions, changes in the title, and any and all accomplishments that contributed to your success in your role. Talk about any training or mentoring you've provided others, and how the changes in your job description have evolved and taught you the skills necessary to enhance and further develop the skills you already have. This question is an opportunity to showcase not only how your role has evolved, but how you have evolved as a professional.
"When I initially started my job four years ago, I was a junior-level operator. Today, I am responsible for leading a team of eight operators. My role does not look the same at all, and I am thankful for the growth opportunity that my current company has offered me. In addition to the change in leadership responsibilities, I have also enjoyed two major promotions. I attribute this to hard work and dedication."

"Change is a constant for me in my current company. I am given new responsibilities quite regularly which include training new employees, hosting lunch and learns, and writing a new policy. The pace of growth is complementary to my career goals."

Yes, my job as a maintenance fitter changed over the years by working for different industries while working on different types of equipment.

Rachelle's Feedback
This answer could use more specific details such as the industries you mention, as well as the different types of equipment. A good rule to follow when you are interviewing is to make sure the interviewer never feels as though they have to dig details out of you.

I think my career has evolved considerably from someone who is primarily being mentored and supporting projects to someone who is a trusted leader with sound decision-making capability and has been given opportunities to work on increasingly complex projects and provide guidance to a new generation. Originally my job description might have been to carry out analytical testing or to carry out set tasks but now my roles revolve much more around empowering others, and building relationships, with much less direction, if any, direction in how to approach daily tasks.
