"Well, at the surface level, I feel as if they are all interconnected. If you have integrity, you'll hold yourself accountable for your own actions and inactions. That means performing at your best, with integrity. That also means having respect for the others on your team. In that way, it is rather simple, which makes all the others sustainable. But, going deeper than that, in how BHP defines it, sustainability is at the top of my list of its charter values, as defined by BHP, for example, decarbonization, a healthier environment, indigenous partnerships, fostering thriving and empowered communities, safety, and an inclusive and future-ready workforce, enhancing more responsible supply chains. This is a competitive and necessary industry, and BHP seems to be taking these issues seriously with commitments that truly make them stand apart from its competition. It's part of what inspired me to pursue this position."

This is another question aimed at determining whether you possess the qualities they are looking for in their teams and culture. This question goes deeper than hearing your thoughts on how sustainability, integrity, respect, performance, simplicity, and accountability are important to you. It explores how you identify with what these mean to them. So it's important to research and read beyond their charter values by exploring the entire pages they dedicate to each one separately. Once you've done that, you'll have a better comprehension of the heart of each of their charter values, and be able to speak to each with greater confidence while competently aligning your values with theirs.
"Sustainability - Putting health and safety first, being environmentally responsible and supporting our communities. Integrity - Doing what is right and doing what we say we will do. Respect - Embracing openness, trust, teamwork, diversity, and relationships that are mutually beneficial. Performance - Achieving superior business results by stretching our capabilities. Simplicity - Focusing our efforts on the things that matter most. Accountability - Defining and accepting responsibility and delivering on our commitments."

To me, Integrity - Doing what is right and doing what we say we will do is the most important. I believe that many of the other charter values follow from integrity. For example, if you're doing what is right, it follows that you will act sustainably. Decarbonization, workplace equity, and fostering thriving communities are the right things to work for. Similarly, simplicity, accountability, and respect all follow, as long as you do what's right, and what you say you'll do. For example, the easiest way to do what you say is to keep it simple.
Marcie's Feedback
Great! This is a strong answer that clearly shows why you believe integrity is the most important value. The interviewer will appreciate that you're familiar with all the company values too. Conclude your answer by reminding the interviewer about your integrity (connect yourself to the company's values). Excellent job!
