When discussing salary, be transparent about your current earnings. Anything that counts towards your cost of living can be equated to your salary, such as how frequently you receive pay increases, bonuses, stock options, mutual contribution retirement, insurance, etc. Then perform your research on American Airlines and learn what you can about what they offer. For example, they advertise on their website some of their perks are Medical/Dental/Vision/Rx, 401k, travel perks, well-being programs, education foundation, and family support, among others. Then, drawing off of that, you'll be able to formulate a starting point with what they have to compete with or match to bring you on board.

"Although this would be my first position in this industry out of Grad School, I would prefer a salary greater than the typical entry-level rate advertised for this position, considering what I would bring to the table."

"I saw online that American Airlines typically pays between 42,000 to 47,000 a year for this position. Currently, I earn a base salary of 45,000 per year plus a potential 20% annual bonus. Last year my earnings were 47,000, and I receive pay increases of 7% every six months. I would like to stay in the same projected range or slightly higher."
