Nobody is perfect, and everybody makes an occasional mistake. The interviewer knows this and will ask this type of question to explore your integrity and to learn how you deal with errors and mistakes. Superior candidates will readily admit to having made a mistake in the past and will then talk about the lessons they learned and how they are now able to prevent similar mistakes from recurring. Unqualified candidates will deny making mistakes and attempt to present themselves as being infallible.
