There are many different approaches and philosophies surrounding music therapy. Most of these approaches have the goal of a patient's well-being. However, how music therapy is used, data is collected, and treatment goals are made are different. There are behavioral music therapy, neurologic music therapy, aesthetic music therapy, biomedical music therapy, and many more different approaches. The interviewer wants to hear what music therapy method or philosophy you use.

"I was taught many different approaches to music therapy when receiving my bachelor's degree. It depends on the population you are working with what type of approach will be best. I find that the behavioral music therapy approach seems to work the best for most of my patients. I typically use the cognitive behavioral music therapy approach when working with higher functioning clients with mental health issues. It really just depends on my client and their individual needs."
