The interviewer wants to hear what or who inspired you to choose a career as a music therapist. They want to see the motivation behind your career choice, giving insight into your personality. You may have a relative or friend who is a music therapist, you might have started on another career path and stumbled upon music therapy, or you may have read a book about the positive effects of music therapy. Explain why you decided to pursue a career as a music therapist.

"I chose to pursue a career as a music therapist because I love to play music and realized what a positive effect it had on my grandmother who has Alzheimer's. I would visit my grandmother in a memory care facility and bring my guitar and sing and play for her. She would not remember who I was, but when I started playing songs she sang to me when I was a child, it was like a lightbulb switched on, and she would remember my name. That is when the lightbulb switched on for me that this was the career I wanted to pursue."
