Answer by telling the interviewer about your short-term goals as an assistant principal, preferably while reinforcing that your goals are related to the position and school for which you have applied. Should your short-term goals significantly differ from the job or school's immediate needs, the interviewer may assume you will leave the position too soon.

Cindy's Feedback
Very good start. Do you have career goals you can add to the mix? Is there any part of your background you'd like to grow? How can this organization get you there?

In five years' time, I would like to be able to look back fondly at what I have done and achieved to make this school a positive learning environment for my students and colleagues. I want to look at my time here as being a trusted and approachable member of staff who is looked to in a time of need or assistance.

Stephanie's Feedback
This is a great start, but I suggest developing this response a bit more. What the question is really asking is, "Where do you want to be in five years? What are your goals for this opportunity? Do you want to stay and grow? If so, how?" I suggest naming more specifically what you'd like to be doing five years. You mention wanting to look back fondly, which is wonderful, but I suggest being a bit more specific about the outcomes and actions that you're hoping to look back fondly on. More specific examples will take this response from good to great.
