School is all about the students! Administrators want to hear that this is your perspective. Tell the interviewer that the classroom must be student-focused. After all, the goal is to see students succeed through dynamic teachers engaging with the students.

"A student-centered classroom is critical. When I taught ESL in China, I noticed that the teacher was speaking most of the time, and students would be taking notes. The students lacked discussion ability and had little chance to develop their own opinions. I always ask my students to write down or talk about what they think about a certain issue."

"A student-centered classroom is what education is all about. The student should be the focal point. Once a student sees themselves in the lesson, then they will get something out of the experience, and this increases student engagement. A student can see himself in a lesson when there is a collaboration, assignment choice, and project-based learning."

"I believe a student-centered classroom is an essential approach to building a healthy learning environment. When the environment focuses on the student, a more unified classroom is created. Students will perform at their best when they can learn from the teaching-style being offered. Student engagement, collaboration, assignment choice, and project-based learning are fundamental tools that build morale and assist children in performing at their individualized best. "Student-centered classrooms are crucial to the development of learners who are going to lead this community in the future. We are living in a 21st Century learning school. With this in mind, we need to develop critical, innovative thinkers who can problem-solve, collaborate, and communicate effectively. Allowing the students to explore as they learn will engage them and help build these skills. One of the aims of our Artsmark accreditation is to use creative activities to advance the learning of all our students. Creative activities take place in all subjects and as we learn more about activating our learners they will become more confident and drive their own learning forward. When I go into a classroom I would expect to see students leading the discussion and demonstrating a high level of involvement. They will be focused and animated in their discussion."
