Think about a quality that makes you stand out from others in the workplace. A good strategy to approach this kind of interview question is to ask a few former co-workers or family members what they feel is the one unique thing that sets you apart from the other candidates. Their perceptions will help you understand how you are perceived and what makes you the perfect person for the opportunity.

Good start. These are qualities that universally apply. Can you be a bit more specific about why you (as opposed to any other applicant) is right for the job? I am passionate about the role education plays in shaping the future of our young people. I am driven to provide students with memorable experiences during their time in this school. I have worked on projects which have demonstrated my ability to think 'whole school' such as developing new student rewards and also a feedback policy.

Stephanie's Feedback
This is a great start, but I suggest adding a closing sentence to really "pitch" yourself. This is no time to be humble! You may wish to mention work ethic, passion, or fit with the school community.

I love teaching at Cedartown Middle School. I enjoy working with my department and teaching the students. Next year I will start my 18th year of teaching.

Stephanie's Feedback
Wow! 18 years of teaching is a huge accomplishment, and on that, you should be very proud of. To make your response more impactful and memorable to your interviewers, I suggest being a bit more descriptive here about what you have accomplished during your 18 years in the classroom. Have you designed a curriculum, lead a content team, or developed a school or department-wide system? Can you quantify your work by showing how many students passed grade-level tests or mastered content? Being a great teacher is hard work, and your interview is the opportunity to paint a picture of your biggest accomplishments over the past 18 years.

You should hire me because I have an excellent rapport with my students, parents, and colleagues in the school. I am a long-serving member of staff who has a good reputation for being supportive and approachable within the community. My communication and social skills will enable me to project the vision of our leadership team to all stakeholders with positivity and enthusiasm.

Stephanie's Feedback
Wow! You sound like an excellent team member, and you do a great job pitching yourself in a way that comes across as confident yet approachable. One element that would make your answer even stronger is using a specific quantifiable example of how you've achieved outcomes (for example: "I am a long-serving member of staff who has a good reputation of being supportive and approachable within the community. During my tenure, I have also contributed to raising end-of-year test scores by 15%.) Using a specific metric that you can quantify will show your interviewer that you can achieve outcomes, which is so critical in a school-based setting.
Prepare for tough questions on student discipline, teacher evaluation, and crisis management.
