"I actively listen during the conversation, never texting or multitasking while talking to someone. I make sure I ask follow-up questions if I need additional information or if I need to clarify anything. Typically, I have a notebook and pen near me, so I make notes as needed, especially if it's relating to a financial transaction, as I want to be sure I follow up and have accurate information."

"To keep track of transaction details, while engaging in conversation, I will ask the customer questions or repeat what they say to me. This helps me to commit their needs to memory while still appearing engaged and in the moment. If needed, I make notes on my desk to refer to later as well."

"A customer came into the branch with multiple requests. To ensure that I addressed each of their needs, I wrote down a few notes for myself to gather the information. This was also helpful because when I needed to answer the phone in the middle of the transaction, I didn't forget any of the important details and I was able to resolve both requests promptly. All the while, I kept the customer engaged and made sure their banking experience was enjoyable."

I often try to repeat the request or question to the person I am engaging in conversation with, and I am sure to be actively listening to what the other person has to say. Asking confirming questions during the conversation helps me to retain information and fully understand what the request entails.

I always make sure to remember the small but important things a customer tells me. Most of the time, a customer will volunteer all the information I need before I have to ask for it. For example, in my current position, we have a client profile for each customer and it has a lot of personal questions such as birth date, anniversary date, spouse's name, ring type, ring size, etc. It can be quite uncomfortable to have to be asked all these questions at once. Instead, I try to engage in conversation with my customer, and they will give me all the information I need in a more relaxed environment. After the conversation, I will input the information.
