"There are so many healthcare issues that I am passionate about, but if I could choose one, I wish that the general public were more aware of the signs and dangers of undiagnosed childhood diabetes. Of course, kidney disease is also a major concern for me, which is part of the reason I applied to work with DaVita. My aunt passed from kidney failure last year, much too young. What you are doing here at DaVita is remarkable."

"This is a tough question; there are so many underfunded and worthy healthcare issues. If I could increase public awareness of any healthcare-related issue, I would choose pancreatic cancer. Cancer receives a lot of awareness; however, pancreatic cancer does not. This year, over 53,000 people in the USA will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and nearly 80% will die from the disease - both men and women."

I wish that the general public were more aware of early detection of kidney disease and more aware of the signs and dangers of undiagnosed diabetes in young adults. My best friend died of kidney failure at 30. She was too young, and I think that could have been prevented or her life could have been prolonged with dialysis.

I would choose lung cancer. Most people think that you have to smoke to have lung cancer. Not true. Need more awareness for cancer.

If I could increase public awareness on any healthcare issue, I think it would be great to educate the people with diabetes and hypertension to avoid having to go on dialysis, to begin with.

I would choose to educate patients on how to control high BP and type 2 diabetes as these are the leading cause of end-stage kidney failure. Uncontrolled BP was the main reason my mother went into kidney failure and now needs dialysis. With proper nutrition and exercise, this could of being prolonged.

I would choose high blood pressure. Through my experience of working at a Medical Practice facility, I have been able to see firsthand how many individuals are struggling with this. As this is one of the main causes of kidney disease it is important to educate patients early on how to lower their blood pressure by changing their diet, exercising, etc.

There are so many healthcare-related issues, I would increase public awareness of Liver Cancer. My mother passed away from Liver cancer because she was not diagnosed early. The general 5-year survival rate in the United States is 20%. For people with liver transplants, the survival rate is 60% to 70%. Kidney disease is also a healthcare-related issue that I would bring public awareness to healthcare.
