      1st Answer Example

"A couple of years ago, I was faxing over some patient data to a clinic. I didn't get a confirmation back, so I checked the fax number, and it was not correct and went to the wrong location. I could have just walked away and gone back to my desk, but not knowing who was on the receiving end of that data, I had to report the incident. I felt awful about it, but it was quickly resolved. If I had said nothing, it could have escalated into a huge fine for the company. Plus, I'm an honest person, so I had to tell the truth."

      2nd Answer Example

"My neighbor got into a car accident a few weeks ago and told me that some of her claims had been denied. She begged me to see what I could find out. I had to tell her there was no way I could do that and that it was a huge HIPAA violation. I told her that she should call our call center and ask for Lynn, who I knew could help her. I felt bad that she put me in that position, but I was glad to give her a person to call to hopefully address her concerns."

      Anonymous Answer

"I always make sure I am following HIPAA regulations by making sure that I do not leave patients' information uncovered or in an area where others can see if they are passing by. I also had an experience where individual family members wanted to know about my client; however, I was already made aware that she only wanted one identified person to know about her status. So I had to refrain from sharing information about my client to these family members."

      Rachelle's Feedback

This is an excellent example of adhering to HIPAA regulations and offering the utmost privacy to your patients. Excellent answer.
