The interviewer wants to know about your customer service skills. As an MRI Technologist, you are rarely behind the scenes. You interact with patients daily to prepare and position them for imaging. Your communication skills must be top-notch to relay your instructions to patients. Because of many patients' fear of claustrophobia, you'll need to tap into your inner therapist as well. Let the interviewer know you are comfortable talking with your patients and enjoy this part of your job.

"I feel very comfortable talking to my patients regardless of the situation. I conduct myself professionally to relay my instructions and calm the patient if they are anxious about the procedure."

"Although I do not have much face time experience with patients, I am interested in gaining further experience with this aspect of the job. I like being with the public and am great with everyone I interact with."

"Absolutely! Being face-to-face with my patients is the best part of the job! I am very experienced and knowledgeable about MRI technology, so I can put my patients at ease by walking them through the procedure and what to expect. I have also become quite good at calming patients who fear enclosed spaces and loud noises. Some patients tell me I am better at calming them down than their family members or therapist! I take that as a compliment and feel I am doing something right when communicating with them."

Of course, I am. My goal is to have a successful exam and my patient comfort as well as an understanding of the process is key to that. I have never experienced any difficulties explaining things and listening to their feedback.
Marcie's Feedback
It's great that you're experienced in talking to patients. What exactly do you do to make them feel comfortable? Can you give an example of a time you talked to a patient and explain exactly how you explained the procedure to them and what the result was? (For example, did they give you positive feedback?) Use the STAR method here to strengthen your answer.

I enjoy talking to patients, obtaining their history, and making them comfortable with the scan.
Marcie's Feedback
It's great that you like this aspect of the job. Can you include an example of a time when you talked to a patient and helped them solve a problem or feel comfortable before a procedure? Also, remind the interviewer of the qualities you possess that enable you to interact successfully with patients (like being personable, friendly, caring, empathetic, and so on). Nice job!
