Why the Interviewer Asks This Question
Most positions in healthcare require drug testing and a criminal background check during the hiring process. This ensures the employees the organization hires are upstanding citizens with a clean record. Working in healthcare requires a high level of trust, confidentiality, honesty, and cognitive function. If an employee is under the influence or is a danger to patients in another manner, it puts the patients and organization at significant risk. Assure the interviewer that you will not have a problem passing either. If there is something in your criminal background or that will show up in a drug test, now is the time to disclose that information.
