Question 29 of 35

How do you assess academic performance?

"I believe that students should be assessed three to four times per year. In my current school, teachers administer academic evaluations after completing each module. The comprehensive evaluations clearly show us where we need to focus further. First and foremost, I review grades and transcripts to get a sense of each student's abilities and accomplishments. However, I also consider other factors, such as participation in extracurricular activities, research projects, and community service. Additionally, I regularly meet with faculty members to discuss their observations and evaluations of students' performance in the classroom. I strive to take a holistic approach to assessing academic performance and ensure that each student is given a fair and comprehensive evaluation."

      Answer Example

"If I have an underperforming student in my school, I will sit down with them and first have them self-assess. The questions I ask include 'What are the personal factors affecting your academic performance?' and 'What are the academic factors affecting your performance?' When students can be completely honest with themselves, it is usually pretty easy to uncover the issue causing the poor grades."

      Experienced Example

"I assess academic performance by looking at a variety of factors. At the top of my list are the student's grades. I examine individual grades and overall grade point averages to understand how well a student is doing academically. In addition to grades, I consider the rigor of the courses the student is taking. A student who is taking challenging courses and earning good grades is clearly performing well academically. I also consider any extracurricular activities or accomplishments relevant to a student's academic performance. Ultimately, my goal is to ensure that all students are given the support and resources they need to succeed academically."
