The topic of public vs. private education is a hot one! When asked to discuss a controversial topic in an interview, it is best to avoid offending statements or pushing any buttons. Give a relatively cooled opinion on both sides and leave it at that.

"I can understand why some people would want their children in private school as much as I understand the draw of public school. Not everyone can afford the luxury of a private school, but I am thankful that our public school system offers great education with such little cost associated. In my opinion, as long as our kids are receiving a valuable education, then who am I to say whether one is better than the other."

I think that whether to go to a public or private school depends on the child as well as the family's situation. Ideally, parents want to find the best school for their particular child at one point in his or her life. A small, supportive school might be perfect for a child who is feeling anxious, but it might be stifling for a child who loves competition and challenge. Some children need structure, and others love to learn in a more spontaneous way. Some people can afford to send their children to private schools while others cannot. The choice is a personal one based on people's views, their monetary situation, and their ability to thrive in certain environments.

Excellent. Your response shows that you can see the benefits of both types of schools and that you respect that each family has to make the choice that is right for them and their child. Great answer!
