"I understand that some relationships come quickly and others take time to nurture. When starting a new job, all I can do is be my true self and let my personality, integrity, and reliability speak for themselves. I also like to ask people about their families and interests outside of work to get to know them on a more personal level and better relate to them."

In order to build new relationships when I start working for a new company, I take a variety of actions. I arrive early to spend a few moments getting to know my new colleagues or supervisors on a one-on-one basis. I ask them about themselves and contribute equally to the conversation. As an active listener, I let them know that I am there to listen. By working hard and knowing when and how to request assistance from my colleagues and supervisors, I begin to build an excellent reputation. I also work to understand what everyone's role is around me so that I can contribute to the success of my team specifically and my company in general. By taking these actions, I can demonstrate that I am a strong independent worker as well as a valuable team player.
