Whether you'll be working with external customers on a regular basis, a variety of large internal teams, or a mix of both at Procter and Gamble, communication is the key to success. Your interviewer asks this question to get a feel for the communication style and skills that you would bring to their team if hired for the job.
"My current supervisor and co-workers will attest to my clear and concise communication skills. Because I am an open leader, my team also lets me know if I need to clarify anything. Based on this feedback from my current co-workers, I would rate my communication skills as an 8 out of 10. I'm definitely strong in this area, but still have room for improvement as I continue to grow as a leader and become more familiar with the Procter and Gamble communication values."
"I will rate myself an 8.5 because I believe in being clear, direct, and upfront with my co-workers and customers. It is the foundation of all success in business. I am always striving to be a better communicator - to always be clear but kind - so I leave the rest of the scale as an aspirational measure. I also never shy away from those difficult conversations because they are important in having integrity in the business world."

First, give yourself an honest and fair rating of your communication skills that shows you have a high level of communication skills and also leaves room for improvement. Then, take some time to elaborate on your verbal and written communication skills and how they will make a positive impact on the Procter and Gamble team. As well, don't forget to talk about your excellent listening skills.

"Having been a volunteer receptionist for the nursing home for the last year, I've sharpened my communication skills and would rate them a 9. I'm a good listener, often practicing active listening techniques in everyday conversations. I'm able to relate to patients, their families and friends, and coworkers and I treat others with professionalism and kindness in our interactions. I always maintain a professional tone, whether in verbal conversations, email communication, or instant messenger applications at work."

Well based on my portfolio, where it can be seen that I am able to present results clearly and efficiently, plus the fact that I am always been a great leader shows that I am a good communicator. I believe that 8.5 / 10 would be fair.

Perhaps consider offering several ratings. You could break down your communication skills into reports/presentations, verbal/oral, and listening. Like you did, refer to your portfolio to support the rating you give yourself for presenting results clearly (maybe a 9 rating?) When you rate yourself on verbal communication, don't forget to mention your sales stats and how you effectively communicated to sell items, in addition to how you used your communication skills to be a strong leader. You should also mention the fact that you are bi-lingual and explain that if your rating isn't a perfect 10 this is partly due to the fact that you are a native Spanish speaker (if you are). Finally, you could include listening as a communication skill and talk about how you are an empathetic, active listener who customers open up to and trust.

Based on my past experiences with team-leading and having opportunities to share my ideas and world views with a larger group of people, I would say I am 8 on the scale. Strong in the field, but with room for improvement as I grow as a leader.
