So this question requires balance. Talk to the interviewer about how you are always willing to go the extra mile by being willing to take their work home with you or put in extra hours when the need arises. Posture yourself as a desirable asset with strong time management skills, emotional maturity, and a strong work/life balance. 10. Despite more current trends, many consumer products still use animal testing. What are your thoughts on this?
What You Need to Know
The testing of products on animals has been a long-time controversy in the consumer products realm. Unilever explores this topic on their website - how they take action and how their product lines reflect their actions. For example, the slogan for their brand, The Vegetarian Butcher, is, "Join us in our food revolution to unleash all animals from the food chain!" Also, from their website;
"We use science, not animals, to make sure that our products are safe for people and the planet. Unilever has been developing and using non-animal safety science since the 1980s, and thanks to a wide range of modern, scientific alternatives, animal testing is not needed to assess the safety of our products. Our leading-edge approach has one clear purpose: to continue to collaborate with other global leaders in developing and applying new science and technology to guarantee that our products are safe, without the need for animal testing. We're proud that People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) lists Unilever as a 'company working for regulatory change' in recognition of our ongoing work on alternatives to animal testing and our commitment to promoting their adoption worldwide."

Communication
20. Rate your communication skills from 1-10 with proper examples backing your given rating.
What You Need to Know
Scoring your communication skills on a scale of 1-10 should be the footnote of your answer. How you justify your evaluation of your skills is more important to the interviewer. Everyone has their own communication style; however, you should place more emphasis on your skill level rather than focusing solely on your style. Key points to touch on are your non-defensive communication skills, being an active listener, and your ability to mirror, validate and empathize. When we communicate non-defensively, we objectify a situation. Objectifying the situation with an emotionally mature understanding of where things went wrong places focus on how communication can be improved for the team, rather than generating defensiveness by casting blame. By asking clarifying questions, you can gather information to gain a mature understanding of the situational landscape. Extra points if you can adapt your communication style to that of others, especially where others are less skilled and less adaptable.
Written by Kevin Downey on August 12th, 2022
1st Answer Example

That will offer the interviewer greater confidence in what you have to offer.

"Setbacks happen for a reason, and they do not affect me emotionally in the least. I am a very pragmatic thinker and stay focused despite the challenges that come my way."
EQ
28. How do you deal with distracting coworkers who stand in the way of your progress?
What You Need to Know
Even the most well-meaning coworkers can distract you from getting things done at work from time to time, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are standing in your way. This question is somewhat entrapping in the way it is phrased. Rather than following along with the tone of the phrasing of this question, separate yourself from it. Showcase a high EQ by holding yourself responsible for your actions. If you allow yourself to be distracted from your work, then it is incumbent on you to communicate that you need to free yourself of such distractions. When communicated nondefensively, this shouldn't be a problem. Showcase your ability to set professional boundaries when needed.
Written by Kevin Downey on August 12th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"I typically just set a kind but clear boundary and tell my coworker that I need to focus. I will offer an alternate time for a catch-up, over lunch, for example. The sake of workplace culture needs to set aside time to be social with coworkers, so I usually just let them know when I'll be available for a quick break in the day."
Written by Kevin Downey on August 12th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"If I have a distracting co-worker, I will point out the distraction right away while remaining kind. I feel it's always best to nip issues in the bud right away before they become out of control."
Written by Kevin Downey on August 12th, 2022
User-Submitted Answer
"I typically said to them that I need to focus on my work right now, but politely explain that I'll be glad to sit and talk later during breaks or lunch maybe. I understand the need to build relationships with other coworkers. But they need to know when I build the line from work and chit chat. They and I need to know work time is work time, and we need to focus on whatever we are doing during this time."

It sounds like you have confidence in building boundaries. I recommend rephrasing slightly so that your response doesn't come off as 'They need to...they need...I need...' Try to maintain a balance of boundaries while understanding there is a social aspect to most jobs.

29. What are your salary expectations?
What You Need to Know
Transparency is the best choice when salary-based questions arise. However, consider everything your previous employers offered you, including retirement, benefits, pay, bonuses, perks, and anything that could hold value or be considered a form of compensation. If your current employer pays for your health insurance, consider how much you'd pay out of pocket for that same insurance.
Written by Kevin Downey on August 12th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"Currently, I earn a base salary of $45,000 per year plus a potential 20% annual bonus. Last year my earnings were $52,000, and I would like to stay in the same range or slightly higher."
2nd Answer Example
"I currently make $100,000 per year with two bonus opportunities. I am looking for compensation that is aligned with the role and provides an opportunity for growth."

31. The FDA and other health organizations/associations heavily regulate many consumer products. How do you feel about that?
What You Need to Know
Unilever prides themselves on their high nutrition standards for their products. Meanwhile, in 2019, Unilever filed a petition with the FDA proposing that the food additive regulations be amended to provide for the safe use of potassium iodate in salt added to select food categories as a source of dietary iodine.
Unilever and the FDA don't wholly agree and don't necessarily share the same standards, but this is a nuanced issue. Objectively talk to the interviewer about your thoughts on consumer product regulation. Be sure to remain positive and avoid going on a rant if there are regulations with which you disagree. Keep your eye on the big-picture.
Written by Kevin Downey on August 12th, 2022

If branding and marketing aren't integral to the position you are applying for, focus your answer on the appreciation you hold for the successful branding and marketing Unilever prides itself on. Showing an appreciation for what they are doing right will reveal that you already embrace their brands and have a keen interest in working for them.

I took a pay cut to move into the role, so to exceed expectations, be promoted, and be financially ahead of where I was previously was exhilarating."

Consider any compliments or praise your coworkers have said about you.
