How to Answer: Do you think it is possible to be a good team member and disagree with the leader?
Advice and answer examples written specifically for a Loma Linda University Medical Center job interview.
17. Do you think it is possible to be a good team member and disagree with the leader?
Why the Interviewer Asks This Question
Hiring managers want to hire strong voices willing to take risks and let their voices be heard. With a question like this, Loma Linda UMC isn't necessarily looking to hear that you openly disagree with your leader. Instead, they want to hear that you are ready and willing to think freely and respectfully challenge the status quo if you join their team.

How to Answer
Show the interviewer that you can be a good team member yet challenge the standard ways of thinking of the team you will be joining. Explain that you believe everyone is entitled to their professional opinion yet capable of simultaneously maintaining respect for each other. In the end, you also want to display that even if you disagree with the final decision they make, you support the direction the team is heading, no matter what.

Answer Example
"I have always believed that being a good colleague and team member is more about attitude than compatibility. I am a person that strives for process improvement and innovation in my work, and I never hesitate to speak my mind. If ideas conflict, I take a very professional approach and like to talk ideas out and learn from others. These environments are the most productive in our field, and I love that Loma Linda University Medical Center encourages new thoughts and ideas from all staff."
