"I'd like to visit one of those little remote Italian towns where they pay you money to buy and fix up a property and live there. I've done my share of home projects and would like to get a feel for what that looks like. Maybe I'd buy more than one house and Airbnb one of them."

"I am an adventurer at heart. When I travel somewhere, I don't like to visit the touristy stuff. I want to go where the locals go. Anthony Bourdain once said, 'A tourist has no idea where they've been, and a traveler has no idea where they are going.' Only when I venture off the beaten path and experience the culture, the foods, and what life is like in a place like that do I learn something new. A few years ago, I backpacked through Nepal, and many others hired porters to carry their stuff. Not me; I hiked with my pack on my back. I didn't stay where the other hikers were. I stayed as close to the villagers as possible. Typically, they invited me into their homes, and we'd drink tea, trade gifts, and speak in a way that transcended words. Next, I'd like to stay in an Airbnb in the Azores."

This seemingly innocent question is fun by design, but it is also intended to get you out of interview mode and offer a real glimpse of your personality. This will help your interviewer better glean who you are as a person and how well you would fit into their work culture. You want to try to display your best self, being true to your nature, yet being professional and filtered. Spend time researching and identifying with their culture and work environment to get a clear picture of your audience before answering questions like this.

I would choose Kyoto, Japan, and stay in a traditional Ryokan listed on Airbnb. It's an opportunity to experience a different culture and traditions, reflecting Airbnb's values of Embrace the Adventure and Be a Host.
