Airbnb wants to engage leaders who will often ask what they can do better, implement feedback, and pivot quickly during times of change. Airbnb values leaders who accomplish what they set out to do, no matter how hard it becomes. Remember - they pride themselves on being disruptors in the hotel and travel industry, but they also admire educated decisions and smart moves. Talk to the hiring manager about a time you took the initiative in the workplace.

"I recently made suggestions to my manager about the team messaging application we were using. I'd had previous experience with a team-based app that offered a lower monthly cost with added features. He reviewed the information I offered him, showed appreciation for the suggestion, and after a week, he decided to roll with it. So far, it's worked well for our team! The company was happy with the cost savings as well. I enjoy demonstrating leadership by presenting new ideas that can save money or simplify the process."

"Last week, my boss had a personal emergency and could not make it in time for our monthly staff meeting. Everyone was already gathering for the meeting, which was slated to start in ten minutes. He called to ask if I still had our meeting notes when we were discussing topics, and I did. We ran through them over the phone quickly, and he quickly briefed me on a couple of other topics and asked if I felt comfortable spearheading the meeting. I told him I felt confident doing so and did my best to relay all the information as my boss would. I took every consideration to anticipate any questions that would come my way while anticipating the needs of my boss. I took notes on the meetings and the concerns expressed by each individual and composed them so my boss could efficiently follow up with each individual's concerns. My boss was very thankful to me for stepping in, and my promotion arrived less than a month later."

It was last year when the pandemic hit, we were trying to help small businesses ride through the harsh economic times. I introduced a program that offered a fee reduction to small businesses that could also pass this down to their end consumers. This helped the company gain additional trust and show support to their clients in times of need.

Stephanie's Feedback
The COVID pandemic certainly introduced unexpected challenges for a lot of different individuals, and it's evident that you exhibited leadership by introducing this program that offers a fee reduction to small businesses. To strengthen your response, I suggest being a bit more specific about exactly what you did in order to introduce this initiative (what steps did you take?)

In my previous role, I led an initiative to transition our traditional security architecture to a Zero Trust model. We recognized the need to evolve our security protocols as we were increasingly moving our infrastructure to the cloud and our workforce was becoming more remote.
Our previous security model was based on a traditional perimeter-based approach, which was no longer sufficient in the face of today's advanced threats and decentralized access points. I led a cross-functional team to implement the Zero Trust framework, which operates on the principle of 'never trust, always verify.'
Firstly, we carried out a comprehensive risk assessment to identify all critical assets and their interactions. Then, we deployed advanced identity and access management solutions, micro-segmentation, and multi-factor authentication to ensure granular access control.
Alongside this, we introduced a Data Loss Prevention (DLP) program to protect sensitive information across the enterprise. This involved categorizing our data, implementing a robust DLP solution, and regular employee training.
The impact was significant: we saw a decrease in security incidents and improved compliance and data protection. It was a challenging but rewarding journey by innovatively leveraging technologies to strengthen security posture and by protecting every data point.
In this process, I learned the importance of communicating effectively with stakeholders across the company. These experiences have equipped me to drive similar transformational changes at Airbnb, aligned with its mission and values.
