This question aims to assess your integrity by evaluating how honestly you present your answers, and by assessing the message of your answer while studying your verbal and nonverbal cues. HireVue classifies someone who is willing to bend the rules, dismissing the importance of their responsibilities, or who fails to take ownership of their performance, and tends to be lazy and careless as a novice. Whereas they describe an expert as someone who holds themself, and others, accountable for making principled decisions while addressing unethical behaviors.

Answer as sincerely as you can. Aside from averting your gaze, increasing your personal distance, and seeming restless or fidgeting, other non-verbal cues the assessment vendor will watch for are covering your mouth or your eyes, pressing your fingers to your lips, stroking your chin, and twirling your hair.

In Sedgwick's Core Value of accountability, they say, "Reinforce accountability. Transparent and ethical, you speak out, every single time. You hold others accountable." They elaborate on this elsewhere on their website, stating that "not making a choice is the same as making a choice. You will be judged either way, so choose to do something with thoughtful action vs. passive inaction. Doing the right thing isn't always the easiest. Professionally, politely, well-informed, and with integrity, you can make the tough decision. Each of us has a moral compass or set of values that guide us. You are creating your personal brand and deciding what you want to be known for. Choices have ramifications. Some of them will shape you as a person, shape others' opinions of you, or shape your future. Make the right choices now and we will expect you will make the right choices later. It sets the tone moving forward. Be the colleague you want your company to embrace."

"Fortunately, I have never been in this position. But if I was witness to someone on my team conducting themselves in a disappointingly unethical manner, I'd suggest they change their direction before they end up where they are headed. Whether I made an impact on their decision-making or not, I would inform my superiors of the incident and how it ultimately unfolded without delay."
