How do you handle stress on the job?
Some degree of stress is an inevitable part of most jobs. The interviewer would like to get a better idea of how you react to stressful situations with this behavioral-based question.
"I've gotten better at handling stress over the years and consider myself to be quite calm under high-pressure situations. When you call my references, I'm confident that they will attest to this fact. I aim to focus on the task at hand and make sure not to get distracted. I find working under a deadline is quite helpful, and I will delegate when necessary to alleviate some stress. I'm drawn to Paycom because your team members appear to be quite level-headed and positive, an environment that I much prefer to a high-stress and competitive workplace."
"I think of myself as being resilient when faced with stress and believe this is because of my experience working in a management role in a fast-paced environment for over a decade. Under times of extreme stress, I make sure to give myself a breather whether that be a quick walk around the block or a couple of minutes on the phone with my wife who is great at bringing me back down to earth."
Demonstrate the strategies you draw upon to effectively manage stress and ensure that it doesn't get in the way of doing your job effectively. Keep in mind that Paycom's workplace culture is a "collaborative and growth-oriented environment" and is not known for having to foster a high-stress atmosphere in the office. Ensure you pay special attention to fit and Paycom's company culture when answering this question while explaining how you approach stress.
