Is it essential for you to meet and exceed work-related deadlines? Assure the interviewer that you can remain focused on a project and accomplish your goals ahead of schedule.

"In my current position I am expected to cold call 100 customers per week. Most of our associates will break this down into 20 per day, five days per week. What has attributed greatly to my success in this role is that I call 50 customers each day for the first two days and then have time to make additional calls throughout the week. This method generally equals a 25% surplus of cold calls to my portfolio. I am always ahead of target by going over and above that cold calling schedule."

"After recently hiring an entirely new team of people to roll out a capital equipment project, I realized they needed to learn to work together. I created cross-functional work group sessions to bring this team closer so they could work at an accelerated pace. We delivered the project seven days ahead of the original schedule. I truly believe this was because of great teamwork."

There was an industrial HVAC project that needed to be completed at an unexpected accelerated pace due to requirements placed on the Plant Engineer by his Factory management. My manager gave this project to me because she knew I fully utilized our cross-functional teams' capabilities and will pay attention to the important details step by step. We worked late, arranged for overnight shipment of factory blueprints, our team collaborated with the Plant Engineer's team, and finished the proposal in days, which the Plant Engineer delivered to his management one week ahead of schedule.

This example sounds great, but it's vague. Consider giving more details about why the project needed to be accomplished quickly, what type of project it was, and how you managed to get it done in time. This kind of information will make your response much more meaningful to the interviewer.

Recently there was a big opportunity with a major up-and-coming pharma company with a product they were still doing engineering runs with. They wanted my lab to produce an extraordinarily large amount of product for them, that would push past our capacity and they wanted it in a relatively short timeline. They couldn't go through our larger volume facility because they didn't have the time in their project's schedule. Our team spent the next few weeks pouring through our schedule, component inventory, and other variables trying to find a solution - it was really tense for a while as we tried to predict which factors we could tweak in order to wow this customer without alienating and disappointing the other customers we had that actually fit into our schedule. Eventually, we found a crazy solution - we moved some other products we were manufacturing to our sister facility (that facility was facing layoffs because there wasn't enough volume. They had just not been officially validated to take on the kind of work we did in our lab, but we found out the missing piece was simple and not a big deal to complete). Once we freed up some capacity by making that change, we not only saved jobs at that facility, but we wowed this customer by delivering their product 5 weeks before their scheduled completion date.
